View Full Version : The Official "Engine Bay" Picture Thread

I've seen a couple members with pictures of their engine bays here and there on the forum and thought it would be nice to have a thread for everyone to refer to instead of searching through the sub-forums. Well having said that feel free to post your pictures! :D

I guess I'll start with mine ... yup it's a little messy but it'll do for now (eekdance)

Even if you got it to fit by cutting or cramming it. There's no way to bolt it down like stock. You'd have to figure out another way. Zip ties, elmers, or Mighty Putty (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_4a4O7kXQo)

Idea: That BEGi cold air box they sell doesn't replace the stock hose or anything. It just gives you a new filter. Suppose you buy the box and fit it around a cobb or CPE sri since Cobb won't sell the one they have on their car. Think it would fit?

Got it offa eBay. Do a search for "fuse cover mazdaspeed" and I'm sure you'll find some. The company that makes them offers the "MAZDASPEED" portion in different colors. The red matches True Red exactly.

make sure you cover your fusebox/ecu/any wires with a trashbag and tape it down. dilute ur apc, spray it on, let it sit for like 10-15 minutes, agitate with brush, then spray it down with some high pressured water. dry it off and coat with whatever plastic polish you guys use.

Isn't it better to run with the intercooler cover on? It provides a sealing area so no air can just go by the intercooler, so it directs more air into it. Also the little grate cross pieces are angled to pull more air into it as well. But the biggest part would be the sealing area.

Dude it's ridiculous. Lately my car was idling between 13:1 and 15:1 AFR with STFTs going all over the damn place. The final straw was yesterday when I noticed my STFTs were bouncing up to +24 when coasting to a stop.

I was working with Cobb trying to get a handle on the fuel trim problems (sending them data logs and stuff), but they eventually completely ignored me.

As an added bonus, when I removed the Cobb SRI, my damn Cobb turbo inlet sleeve was crushed from the clamp. Cobb should have included better sleeves with this inlet. Oh, the MAF housing was slightly bent from the clamps as well. And I honestly didn't tighten them super tight.

Looks nice. Is that black powdercoat on the shroud? How's it holding up?

It's anodized black from ETS. I ordered it when I realized the shroud that came with my used ETS was cut too short and my black duplicolor paint job on it was a disaster anyway.

I called ETS directly and orderd a new black shroud from them. They told me they anodize. The one I painted ended in disaster. It's possible ********** does the powdercoating themselves on their TMIC. From what I've read, even rattle can spray paint on an intercooler won't affect BATs in any appreciable way.

If you call them and ask about coloring options they say they anodize as well. This is a custom coloring option that is better and more expensive that powdercoating.

If you order the TMIC from ETS online they will charge you shipping. Call them and they will give you free shipping therefore the same price as PG and SU

When I was talking to them they said to Anodize the intercooler it would cost $80. Their color options are Black, Blue, Red, and Gold.

Wow that's pretty cheap compared to SU's powerdercoating. So I could get the shroud and endtanks anodized for 80? Sorry for asking u so many Qs, I'm in Asia and it's 4 bucks a min to call the states.

Red andodized is the one that comes off as pink right? Maybe I cud have them anodize the shroud black then I just hit the end tanks with high temp engine paint after some taping. I assume it wudnt get fucked up since nothing sits on the endtanks to seal.

Might be a complete noob question, but what is that mini-filter/cylinder thing next to your intake?

its an equivalent of a catch can. It replaces the PCV pipe that runs from the valvecover back into the intake (1" hole on the side of the Cobb SRI). Doing it this way ensures that absolutely no oil vapor gets into the intake whatsoever. the filter just allows the pressure to escape to the atmosphere without getting oil all over the place

Parting out. I bought a new toy and my Speed3 will move to my daily driver. I wanted something that was going to be reliable and worry free. I was heavily modded with pretty much all bolt-ons except the turbo manifold. All these popped motor threads had me a little paranoid lol.

I used an engine detailing spray from Turtle Wax. Works great in restoring the black bits.

Well, do you want to sell your garage vary front lip? maybe?

I was planning on keeping it. Just the performance stuff is what I removed. If I do decide to part ways with it, I'll let you know.

Nice detail job on the engine bay Element !!

Thanks!

are you selling your parts?

I will be soon. Just going to clean everything up, and I will be making a big FS thread sometime soon.
