i posted a question in the wrong section of the forum realting to the AC compressor on my 97 protege, any help would be appreciated

Yes you should be able to just bypass everything. I wouldnt remove it all as that would be more of a pain, plus you cant release the R134a into the air, it has to be removed by a shop.
If your belt is worn out or lose it can also squeel when the AC is turned on, as thats a major drag on the belt system. Id ck that before you get crazy, if its a bearing you will know it, if its squeelin its belt or the belt is lose.

the belt should be in fairly good shape, its a couple of years old now, but this has been a bit on an ongoing issue and has persisted through a few new belts.
