I got home from a week in NYC and was pleasantly surprised to find my wife had washed my car for me... yeah, she pretty much rocks!
Anyway, she took me outside to show me something weird that was going on with my rear tires because she has never seen a wear pattern like that before.
Right at the shoulder of the tread were these thin "flaps" of rubber that were barely hanging on. They looked like thin slices of cheese. I ran fingers along the edge of the fender and confirmed what I had feared. I'm rubbin'!

I'm running 18X8 +50 with 225/45-18 Potenza S03 on stock suspension.
Guess I'll need to roll the fenders before I slap on those Eibachs.

Yeah, yeah...
I wasn't sure if I was going to lower the car or not (I still might not) and I wanted to fill up the wheelwell a little more. I think 40's look puny in there on stock suspension.

Plenty of guys in here saying they're running the same size tire as me with no rubbing, so I just wanted to throw some info out there that I am in fact rubbing on 225/45's.

Ditto that... Well, not the "235" part. My 225/45s haven't contacted the fenders yet, I get pretty frisky with it gettin' off the interstate.

yep, i would go with a 40 series and possibly find some 215's with a rigid sidewall so they still fit and don't look gay. go to a local tire shop (not some corporate store) and see what they can do for you.

Maybe your old lady was joy riding with three big dudes doin alot of rubbin while you were gone, and she felt guilty enough to wash the car of "evidence" before you got back ??? Did the inside of the car smell kind of funky ??? J/K

You are rubbing on the sides that is odd. Most people with 225/45/18 have reported rubbing on the tops with that size. And with your 50mm offset you should be able to go with a 235 at least before you rub on the sides. Very strange...

I'm thinking maybe wifey lady stuck some fatties in the back too. I know a guy who's rear passenger strut busted in a turn because the chick riding with him was such a fatty. (rofl)(rofl)

Well I have 17" Wheels with 215/40/R17 Yoko's and I rub on the back tires when I go over a heavy bump and it's peeling the rubber from my tires.....pissing me off actually. Considering this only happens now that I had my suspension replaced, but I like the ride of this vs the last suspension I had......nothing to do now but raise the rear end to hopefully prevent further wear on my brand new tires....

any other ideas?

the thing is that I did not lower the car at all. It's at stock height and rubbin with 215/40/r17s. I was told to roll my fenders by a family member, but wanted to weigh all my options first.

The only difference now is that I do not rub as bad because I had to put spring spacers in to prevent it from coming all the way down on my tires.
