So, after playing the game for the short periods of time i got to. I have a few questions.
#1. How can they release a MULTIPLAYER ONLY game and have network failures the first day because the servers are over-loaded??
#2. How can they release a first person shooter game that only needs to worry about multiplayer capabilities (no singleplayer maps, limited guns etc.), it takes half an hour to download crap onto your ps3 the first time you put it in, and it still has shitty graphics???
This is a HD gaming system (PS3), i have a full 1080p tv, i use good quality HDMI, spent the $50 +/- to get the game and i honestly was not impressed. I got to watch crappy graphics in hi-def, and the other bit of the time i was sitting wondering why the game was telling me there was a server error, and wondering why the hell a purpose made game had so much server lag.
Any other opinions???

Sounds like almost any online only multiplayer game on release week.

COD4 was 10x better in my opinion.....even Rainbow six... SOCOM has let me down.

plus the fact those games at least had a singleplayer portion to play if the severs were crappin out.... with this game though when the server craps out your money invested lays in the hands of the SOCOM IT workers

ya it does suck ass that the servers are down, but man are there some cool features. love how you can just talk to ppl when they close to you and you can hear them whether they are friend or foe. hopefully it will be better tonight.

agreed. they do have some pretty cool features. maybe i was harsh or maybe i expected a little too much. i'll still be gamin on it for a while though.

Socom has always been a bit to technical for my kids to stay interested too long...but they're a bit older now. I was considering this as a next purchase. How is the realism compared to COD4?

i guess in that department it is a little more "realistic" than COD4. it's kinda harder to target people....a lot of the maps seem a bit dark to me as well. but up the brightness and you might be set.

I may end up waiting for COD5!

plus with all the downloads and updates you have to do to be able to play it.....man. on top of it all i don't really see a whole lot of team work happening. I know they intended the game to be team based, but the classic everone for themself is still very much alive. just goes to show why people need to train as a team to function as one. train as you fight

the realism,
For the lil bit that i played last night its way more realistic then COD. Its annoying but if there is stuff in front you, it actually gets in your way when you shoot and the scopes and accessories for the guns are pretty badass too.

Zipper admitted that Confrontation is just a taste of whats to come. they are working on making the game better for next gen. they just hurried this game out to keep everyone calm for a few months (hence the complaints, they hurried it out) but none the less, they are going to make a much better version. garanteed.
COD spanks Socom. I'm not a fan of the 3rd person view and targeting. Sometimes the guys head gets in front of the cross-hairs if you are travelling sideways.
Load out take WAY too long to just start, but after that its pretty quick.
First week so I guess I cant complain about the servers too much.

I played socom 1 and 2 like crazy during high school. Was in the 2nd ranked gamebattles. Then socom 3 came out :(. They said socom 4 would be more like 1 and 2. They will fix the servers soon so just have patience. Other then that is the game good? Socom 3 sucked in every aspect.

Socom 3 wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. I enjoyed Socom 2, but Socom 3 was still fun. 32 player online games are very fun.

i played all socom 2, 3, combined assault, all the time. i quit after i started playing xbl, but i had the best time playing these games. i used to be an expert of the 552sd with the scope, nailing people with headshots, killing vip's and everybody with a weak weapon. fun times, fun times.

Socom 3 sucked because of the maps. There was tons of people yet it took 30 minutes just to find someone. Socom 1 and 2 was like the perfect balance of realism and unrealism. Socom 1 and 2 was one of the few shooters where (in clans) you could really use teamwork. Its not an FFA if you don't want it to be but you could always rush in there and kill everyone :D. I dont know but if socom 4 is similar in style to 1 and 2 then it should be awesome.

It's better now that it's been updated.
