View Full Version : VICS screws - torque and locktite?
I've got a new-to-me 03 Protege5 and I'm trying to fix it up.I've searched many threads and have yet to find the answers to this one:
If I want to ensure my ViCS screws are fine, what torque should I screw them to? And also, people have recommended lock-tite on the screws. What kind of lock-tite (which brand/temperature/colour)?
Thanks in advance,
Leslie

Torque = German spec. Gutentight.
Thread locker = anything that is non-penetrating.

Thanks for the quick reply! Few more questions:
Why non-penetrating for the threadlocker?
Wouldn't you get a better lock with penetrating?

the penetrating thread locker tends to run down the shaft the butterflies sit on. The thread locker then boogers up how easily the shaft rotates.
In this case, knowledge comes from experience.

Thanks for passing on the experience!
I obviously need to know more about thread lockers in general.
Is the non-penetrating stuff, the thicker stuff (like silicone glue)?
What kind of temperatures do the ViCS screws see (should I try the higher temp stuff or will good old "blue" locktite work)?

I think the penetrating stuff is green.
The ViCS aren't in that hot of an environment so blue or red should work fine.
