This accident was not my fault!

Some guy in a big old truck ran a red light and found me in the intersection.

I was going somewhere between 5-10mph he was going 45-55mph.
He hit me and I spun around twice. The 3 did an awesome job I think.
The car doesn't look bad at all, the body does need alot of work the only door that opens and closes normaly is the back rear door on the drivers side.

This is for anyone looking at buying a new Mazda3 get the side airbags! I didn't need them in this crash but if there would have been someone in the car with me... well lets just say I was lucky. My face has cuts all over it from the glass I had tint on the window which helped keep most of the glass off me.

On the paper the policer officer gave me it said < $10k I only owe about $13k so it will be close to getting totaled.

Whoa....sorry to hear about the car, but glad to hear you are ok and here to post about it.

Thanks. So I went talk to the body shop today and he thinks it's only going to be $5k I have no idea how it can be that low but whatever. I had to sign some paper saying they could use a used door. In order for the car to be totaled it has to cost %80 of what the market value is which is $16k (Thats what they told me) so thats about $13k in damage now I know the front wheel is messed up and I know the body is bent (Some what) but I don't know whats going on under the car I was hit by a truck so it hit higher and they don't think anything under the car is messed up.

And they said they could have it done in two weeks. (And I'll believe that when I see it.)

I Added some pic's of how my Mazda "fought" back. : ]

If the frame is bent, which I'm guessing it is from a T-bone accident, then it should be totaled...
Someone is screwing with you, that doesn't look like 5k damage. Go to a different body shop. And since the accident is not your fault, insist on brand new mazda parts, not some used body panels...

I'd only get new genuine Mazda parts, god knows where they're getting those used parts from.

Glad to see you're well and posting.

Can everybody see how that Volvo side of Ford helps now? (because without Mazda, Fords would be really crappy to drive. and without Volvo, Fords would be terribly unsafe cars...same with Mazdas)

Yes I was meaning to mention that. The wreaker said he had just come from another t-bone accident and it was an S40 and he said the cars damage almost matched. (Which if you think about it the MZ3 and the S40 are basically twins... that is the body.) He also said he went to a crash that morning with a BMW 3 series and told my dad that my Mazda looked better and the bimmer was hit at a slower speed by a smaller lighter car.

The thing is I have USAA and the other body shop they will let us use is scary, like REALLY trashy. And as for the used door they said it would just be easy to use another 2007 right front door because the door to be ordered from the factory doesn't have any wiring or motor or glass they would have to put that together at the shop and I think I would like a used Mazda door that was put together at the factory better then one made by a body shop in Niceville, Florida.

As for the frame I guess it only gets major damage on the underside of the car and I got hit my a 1992 Ford F-150 so the damage was higher... so there is a good chance it's fine.

I'm still crossing my fingers on it being totaled.

There are three body shops that I know of that I can take the car to, one is to busy to take my car the other one is scary and then my car is sitting at the other.

I am waiting for another Mazda3 owner that got t-boned to see this and tell me what happened to them.

I got my car back tonight! 28 days in the shop and $8k later my car is almost good as new, there are little things that are still wrong with it, just little things that I notice... one thing is the turn signal side marker on the side I got hit isn't working, it's a brand new fender so I think they just didn't plug it in and thats getting fixed tomorrow. I'll have pictures tomorrow!

There is no frame... these cars are uni-body, as are most these days. You're right, though. The insurance company can't put in used parts unless you OK it. You also don't have to accept non-Mazda parts.

I'm in Louisiana on vacation and we took my sisters Mazda5; I left my 3 at my house and I had parked it in my driveway with the front pointing towards the road...
One of the guys that lives across the street was drunk and tried to drive somewhere, he backed his RX-8 out of his driveway and into my front bumber.
Somehow he caught the edge of my bumber and ripped it off, the whole bumber was laying on the road and his car was attached to the metal on the front of my car. Don't ask me how this happened, my boyfriend isn't even taking pictures so it must look bad. I just got my 3 back from the t-bone accident and now it's going back into the shop...
The RX-8 guy is MIA but he left his car attached to mine more then halfway into the street, his car was still on and in drive when the cops got to the accident... he pushed my car a few feet and there is burnt rubber on the road from him trying to push my car.
I'm really angry at myself because I should have put the 3 in the garage with my S40 but left it out so it would look like someone was home. If I can get Will to take pictures I'll have them up, I know a neighbor took some while the RX-8 was beating up my 3. And they are the ones that filled me in on what happened as well as the cops. I am just not having much luck with my 3 and other drivers.

You could have gone to any body shop you wanted to which is true for any insurance company. I just had my WRX totaled with USAA about 4 weeks ago. 17,000 in damage. Your agent was screwing with you if she told you that you only had 3 choices, or in my experience with USAA more likely that she didn't know any better.

Glad to hear its back in 1 piece.

Well I guess it's a Florida thing that the body shop has to work with USAA like they have to have an agreement or something, I'm not really sure but the body shop did a really good job on the doors.

Perhaps. Who really knows though? Besides now Mazda is barely owned by Ford (somewhere around 10% as of this month) and I predict not at all in the future if things don't turn around for Ford.

Volvo is the one who makes most of the plateforms for all Mazda's, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury...

As for the Mazda parts they were Mazda parts that got put into my car they just came off of another 3 and not new from the factory. My car is less then 3 years old there for I have to only have Mazda parts after an accident.

So I went to check on my car today; and when I get there I see a Mazda3 bumper well I got all kinds of excited and I walk over to it and it has a front plate bracket! I was so pissed, I asked if it came shipped like that and the guy told me no that they put it on because my other bumper had it. I had bought the car in Ohio were you need a front plate (and my dad is a Seg. in the Highway Partol up there) but now I live in Florida where you don't need one. So my new bumper is going to have a front plate too and I'm kind of over it!

Skylar,

How great of a job did they do when they matched up the paint? I noticed we have the same color 3 - I think Galaxy Gray. On mine, the new door shells, old front fender, and old rear quarter panel, which they painted/blended are a little bluer than the original paint and do not quite match the hood, side skirts, handles, etc. I am going to have them make it match, whatever that may require.

I am worried that they won't be able to get the color right. They are using a waterborn paint system, which I believe they might not be too experienced with. However, I do have to give them the chance to make it right before exploring other options.

Thanks

skylar2ups
12-10-2008, 01:22 PM
Mine doesn't match 100% either and actually I'm not happy at all with my repairs. I've just started to notice little things that piss me off... like the fact that my new front fender doesn't line up at all... there are a couple like dents in the paint on my passenger front door... I think they painted my hood because I was out there working on something and I saw at the top of the hood the level of paint is off I can move my finger across it and feel it go up and down up and down... and I noticed that the right side of my car have deeper levels of blue then the left, I'm starting to think they changed the paint a little...

I really think I am going to sell my 07 and buy an 09. I would fight till your car is perfect! Mine isn't driving right anymore and I don't want to pay for a broken car.

wolverine_man
12-10-2008, 02:46 PM
Wow, I am sorry to hear about all of your troubles. I knew about the paint being a little off from year to year and I told the body shop that at the time I originally dropped it off. They said it has a lifetime warranty though if I am ever unsatisfied with the work. All of my panels seem aligned and good, so hopefully they can get the paint right.

Just worried that the more re-do coats they put on will decrease the chances of it matching. I know nothing about paint, though. If they cannot get it to match, I will push the issue to the point of having the car repainted completely.
