"Warm up catalyst below threshold..."
Anyone have trouble with this code?
I got this code a while back, and was told I had a hole in my warm up cat on top of a busted gasket between the exhaust manifold and the warm up. I was able to seal up the gasket and pass smog (woo!), but the hole was still there. Not wanting to pay 600+ for a new warm up, I Ebayed a wholesale one out of Canada for 200 bucks. Seemed like a deal...
When I got it, first thing I noticed is the holes for the studs weren't threaded, and were too large anyway...since I already started work, I decided to MacGuyver that bad boy in, and by the grace of God and a bunch of odd sized bolts, nuts, and washers, it fit like a retarded dream.
This was about 5 months ago, and then driving home one night, there it is, dashboard herpes, the CEL. And of course, "warm up catalyst below threshold.."
I give up and take her in, and they tell me that cat just doesn't work...miraculously I managed to seal everything around the manifold and the down pipe before the second cat. The gasket to the secondary cat was blown though, and I had it replaced and sealed up.
But as for the code, could this have been caused by the blown gasket to the second cat? Or does this code simply mean the warm up cat doesn't work?
