I'm thinking about it. The RX-8 wheels aren't in perfect condition, some small paint blemishes hither and yonder, so I may go a gloss gunmetal sometime down the road.

The shift boot is stock. The Redline armrest matches with stock leather almost perfectly. The only difference is that the stitching is a shade lighter than on the seats/boot, but it's barely noticeable. The tint is 20%, not that bad. I think the sun and the angle of the pics makes it seem darker than it really is.

The common folk would never notice the shading in the stitching. The leather looks like a dead-on match. Is the piece bordered by elastic to just wrap around the stock armrest?

And I hear you on the suspension. I had a lowered WRX for six years and welcomed the less-than-jarring ride of a stock Speed3.

Yeah, it's elastic on the trim. The fit is tight, so it takes a bit of negotiating and tugging like a woman's skinny jeans the day after Thanksgiving to get on.

Is your car the turbo one?
I lawl'd. I thought about using a highlighter to make it more obvious.

The battery cover is putting down 12v to the terminals. Dyno proven.

The tires are the stock 215/45-18 Potenzas. There is NO lip protection, but the tires have too much tread left to not use. My next rubber will be at least 225.

For those that are wondering, the sensors swapped right in with nary a dash warning light so far. No recalibrating needed.

Impressive numbers, but I bet that's a Dynojet dyno. I bet it's only like 11.2V on a Mustang dyno.

The RX-8 wheels in my house that my cats like to sleep on already have TPMS sensors installed. Hopefully they work without incident when I finally get tires.

I think when I was ordering it that the foam padding option was grayed out. That's fine because it doesn't need it. I wanted the leather feel/look, didn't like resting my elbow on plastic.

Nice shots there. The engine bay looks great, aggressive yet still classy :P. I for one applaud your red turbo coloring, I like small details like that.

Do you have any plans on lowering it? I have RX-8 wheels also and recently install the Eibach pro-kit which makes them fit nicely on the car. Also, how many tickets have you gotten for tint?! I live in the NoVa area too and I'd be scared to get tint like that with VA's horrible motor laws.

Thanks. I got the fuse box cover from eBay here (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=3&campid=5336012636&toolid=10001&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Febaymotors%2FMazd a-3-and-MazdaSpeed-3-Fuse-Box-Cover-04-05-06-07-08_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el1116QQ itemZ220283525305). However, it seems the price must have been recently upped. I got mine shipped for what they're asking for now without shipping. Anyway, you can get the Mazdaspeed cutout in different colors.

I have no plans for tinting lights. It's like eyelids, to me it seems counterproductive to decrease the light's output. But it can look nice when done right.

Yeah, I'm not lowering it. My car has to be a comfortable family hauler that has some kick when I need it. I went through that phase with previous cars, race-prepping cars that mostly saw street use.

Glad you like the details. I just used a fine-tipped brush, True Red touch-up paint, and a steady hand. Since I'm pretty much done with big performance mods (power, handling, wheels), anything I do now will be smaller things to put my stamp on it. Maybe a new BPV, shift knob, e-brake boot, that kinda shit.

That's cool, I understand that. I made sure to get the most comfortable springs I could find. The Eibach's are nice because they are progressive. So when cruising normally it feels the nearly same as stock. But when you want to be aggressive they respond nicely. I was really paranoid before installing them because the factory setup is so nice and I didn't want to ruin the comfort of it. Luckily they worked out perfectly for what I was looking for.

How many people are going to that BBQ Sunday? I might try making it out there.

Hey Kain:

I just installed some RX-8 wheels on my true red MS3, and it looks identical to your car, window tint and all. In fact, if we parked them together we could not tell the diff from the outside. Don't worry though, I live in Cali, so no one will think I ripped your idea off. Great wheels.

There's some dude with a TR MS3 and CorkSport FMIC kit with a red TMIC shroud and hoses. Honestly, I think it's too much. I'm all about red accents, not making my engine bay look like a used tampon.

Wait, you mean the valve cover? If I go the FMIC route, I will definitely be powdercoating the valve cover red. That would look nice.

Silver Ecstasy
10-20-2008, 12:05 PM
No I meant the engine cover. But I agree, it may be way too much red. Red always looks sorta weird on plastic versus paint on metal. It has a cheesy look to it. I seen someone paint it white and it came out real nice.

Anyhow, yeah the valve cover would be sweet though for sure!

Did you hand brush the 'turbo' part? Or just tape off and spray paint? What paint did you use?

Newp. I mentioned this before, but if this was my daily and I traveled in Fairfax county often, I would've got 35% all around like on my previous car. But it's garaged all week and Alexandria city cops don't give two shits about tint or front plates anyway. They're only strict about speeding.

Re: the Redline armrest cover. Mine is coming in the mail along with the shift boot and ebrake cover. You got the black leather correct? I was just checking on their site and the charcoal color seems to be a good match for our leather bolsters. You think that would've matched better or you think the black is a dead-on match? I know you said the stitching is a shade off...not worried about that. Also, did you notice a little more padding with the armrest cover on?

Kain
01-07-2009, 11:54 AM
The leather I got was black, and it's spot-on. The stitching is what they call JDM red, lawl. That's a shade off from the factory stitching, but close enough.

You might find installing the armrest cover a bit tough this time of year (well, you're in Florida, who knows). At the least, take a hair dryer to the leather right before attempting the install because it's a very tight fit.

Looking good as always, man! Are you going to take the car any further with power mods? Or do you have it right where you want it? Oh and how bad was that defi gauge install. Did you follow a nice howto anywhere, or did you use included instructions? Apologies if that's already covered and I should have used the search function, etc.

where is the conference? I'm ~5 minutes from the PA border now

Newark. I'll be there all week.

Actually, I was waiting until next year when I have a better feel whether I want a CBE or not and asking you how your Racing Beat was holding up longterm. If I do go CBE, that's the one I want.

The Defi gauge install was cake for me, but I'm pretty experienced with electronics. I'm a crappy solderer, though, but thankfully my mom was visiting and she works with circuit boards for gub'ment computers. If you're comfortable pulling dash panels and reading the PJB schematic, you'll be fine. There's a How-To in the... wait for it... How-To forum. But I would spend the few bucks unlike the OP and get Add-a-fuse taps.

Car looks good Kain. Where can I get those Redline leather products? And how durable are they?

NVM I found it.

So that was you in the bushes outside my bathroom window? Let me know when you're there next, I'll make sure to touch myself.

I thought Kain did more work to his car and snapped some picts. Instead I find Facebook pickup lines. Boooo. (blowup)
