ok i had an incident where i apperently gave this car more than it could handle. i blew out the clutch and flywheel which have just been replaced. but they got it back together today and it will only hold idle. will not rev what so ever they put a scan tool on it and it said turbo. thats all they remember. it has 52000 miles on so my question is one have yall heard of this issue and two whats the cheapest turbo i can put in it. stock price is 1400 but i have found garrets that offer 22psi for 1600. what do yall suggest?
kennytjr

forgot to give more info. i have a 2006 mazdaspeed 6 with 52000 miles on it. it has a mazdaspeed cold air intake but that is the only mod. untill that night i had a trouble free car

i suggest you get rid of the car, you obviously don't know how to drive it.
maybe you need something non turbo and automatic.

You can't just drop a different turbo in there that easily without being able to tune for it.
Try contacting Ken at protege garage "Captain KRM P5" maybe he can help you find a good used one.
That's definately quite a feat to toast your clutch bad enough to need to replace your flywheel but how exactly could the turbo go out at the same time??

man we have asswholes on this forum, Contact ATP, they make a t28 that drops in, it is very similar to our turbo, but holds boost after 6k, i would recommend some kind of tune, but this turbo will run on our stock ecu
kennytjr
10-04-2008, 05:49 PM
what would be your suggestions? i beleive i over spooled the turbo. may have hit 6k rpms was running from someone when it happened i hit atleast 155 and yall know the turbo quits at 150. the clutch and flywheel popped during the downshift to take a left! if i were to upgrade what all has to be done before i bolt on a 22 psi turbo
Something here doesn't make sense. If your turbo is blown, should at least have a "drivable" car.

ok your right about me not having a clue! i dont know anything about this car. all i know is i got drunk and ran from the cops ran down the highway for 10 minutes with the pedal to the floor. i know i saw 155. i then tried to turn while downshifting to use the transmission to slow me down i lost control and skidded to a stop. when i went to drive off i realized i had no clutch. so i gave up. spent the night in a correctional facility and in the following weeks had my car worked on. i fucked up by not taking it to a dealership. but its too late for that now. they replaced my clutch and flywheel. it started and they drove it an eighth of a mile when the dumbass ran out of gas. so he burnt up my fuel pump which has been replaced but now that its replaced the fucking car wont do anything but idle. pedal has to be to the floor for it to do that. he said he had a guy from mazda put a scanner on it and the scanner said turbo. i have just told you what i know. how can yall help. and if all your going to do is tell me how stupid i am and how i should just get rid of the car you can keep that shit to your self.

well the scanner said the turbo was the problem
I don't think you will have a code for the turbo itself. The car should start and run fine with a bad turbo. I think you should demand for them to fix it at their cost since it ran fine before it ran out of fuel. I hope you learn your lesson about drunk driving. I have no respect for your sorry ass. That could have been some one family you slid into.

What I dont get is how someone can get plastered, run from the cops "going 155," have a wreck, and only get ONE day in a "correctional facility." In AZ the law recently changed and you get mandatory time in tent city...and an interlock device.
One question though, when will this incident air on COPS? (rlaugh)
Seriously though, I also wonder how my thread relating to a NON-illegal incident that posed a question about mechanical issues got locked, but this thread in which poses a question about mechanical issues stemming from a DUI HIGH SPEED CHASE doesn't get locked? (uhm)
hmmm...just a friendly question so that I may be better informed of the rules around here...any mods care to elaborate?(usa)

...thats what it is, lol. Straight outta cops. I'm looking for it next time its on...
I guess its ok to talk about how one's high-speed DUI arrest in an MS6, but not ok to talk about redline issues as in my thread from last week...I guess thats how it is.
Anywho, enough flaming...the man has a question.
I have no idea what you could do to replace the turbo and save money...best bet is going to be the stock one and just buy that...don't forget the CX-7 and MS3 have the same turbo as the MS6, maybe a parted-out one of those would be the way to go(dunno)...whatever the decision you make, its going to cost a lot. Why try to save 200 and run the risk of a non-mazda part...?

Here is thread on cost:

And for the record, this thread is epic.
Might I ask what gear you downshifted to? Downshifting to any gear when you're doing 155 mph is never a good idea. You obviously have no idea how gears work. At all.
There are brakes on your car for a reason.

for those of you who still want to help me a appreciate it. for those of you calling me a tool and a dumbass yall are correct. it was the dumbest thing i have ever done i put lives at risk. one nail in the road could have killed several and nothing i can say will truely let you know the regret i have over that night. and to answer the question about the one night stay. they had to hold me for 6 hours then i go to court where they will tell me how much more time i have to do. not to mention the fact im driving an 82 3/4 ton pickup without air in memphis. and no you wont see it on cops ive seen the film you cant see my car during the pursuit and when he caught up my car was stopped. ive got the car back now. its depressing to see it just parked. the car will crank and idle but it idles at 600 rpms. if you floor the throttle and crank it, it will stay at 700 rpms if you just crank it with no throttle it stays at 600 rpms. if you ease into the throttle it just dies. almost like it boggs out and dies. would that be because its running really rich for a turbo that isnt burning the excess fuel? im at a complete loss. i completly understand those of you who dont want to help me under the circumstances but i really need to help. i dont know what to do. i wish i could just get out of the car but with this market and how upside down i am on a car that doesnt run that isnt the option at this moment

I don't even understand what that means. What does "floor the throttle and crank it" mean? You mean you're holding the throttle down with the car off and then turning the ignition on?
And "if you ease into the throttle it just dies", at which point? With the car in gear, the car in neutral?
The turbo doesn't burn fuel, it pushes air. The car runs rich by design.

10-10-2008, 02:41 PM
yes i hold the peddle to the floor start the car while continuing to hold the peddle to the floor and it will run at 700 rpms. then i can release the peddle completly and it drops to 600 rpms. but if i ease back into the throttle after it its 700 rpms it just dies.

Yeah, we CX-7 owners are cursed with a smaller turbo.
There is no scanner that will say "turbo" as a problem. Even if your turbo was toast it would still run and drive. Cats could be clogged, the direct injection system fuggled from lack of fuel, or the engine just plain toast.

Sounds like a throttle position sensor. If it's running rich it would detonate or knock.
Pull any codes yet? Sounds like a limp mode.
Should turn the key and it will idle higher for the warm-up period before dropping down to 1k

dude get a gt30r or a good turbo from protege garage! the gt28r is only 1500 and is way more effeciant better than ours.. The gt28r is bigger than my friends evo9 turbo wich is double the size of ours... Bigger turbo=better more efficiant boost= more power with less boost

i wanan say since they ran fuel out of it they fucked the fuel pump and ill take a wild guess and say since the regular 6 uses normal injection methods and the mzr motor uses direct injection they didnt think anything different and bought the normal 6 fuel pump. Like i said thats just a guess i would think there would be a different fuel pump for the mzr but i could be wrong

Mass Airflow Sensor - Inline on you intake pipe. Relays data to car computer for proper air/fuel ratios. Look around, make sure everything is plugged in, check all fuses. Turn key to Accessory postion and listen for fuel pump.

Well, the turbo does glow bright red when it is operating under boost at 3500 rpm. However, considering your adventures, it could indeed have a crushed exhaust pipe or the cat could have collapsed inside restricting the exhaust. Guessing isn't going to fix it though, and all dealer shops are staffed with idiots unless you luck out and find one smart person. A visual will trell the tale. Inspect the exhaust pipes and pull the second cat (two bolts) and look through it. You should be able to see through the honeycomb with your eyeball lined up with the openings. Hold a shop light at the other end. Good luck with this and your maturity issues.

(drive)Well sir, I too have had an issue after a dui wreck. What I can tell you is that after the car came back from the body shop, it would not stay started. It always just went dead after attempting to idle. I took it to the dealership, instead of the assholes who worked on it after the accident. It turns out that the fuel pump was clogged up. It cost me a nice penny to get that fixed, but it drives like brand new today. Take it to the dealer and suck it up!

wow what a story, i wish there was a helicopter in the air to catch all that on tape, espcially the part where he has it redlined and downshifts it to take a corner. well im no MS6 expert but i will say this, take it to the experts, as in a CERTIFIED mazdaspeed dealer. they will be able to help you a lot more than any average joe mechanic. I know the MS6 is a picky machine, my dad had one, complety stock but it seemed to always have some electrical issue with a sensor somewhere, thank god mazda has decent warrentys, but in the long run he got rid of the MS6 for a normal 6 and is much happier now.
so the sum it up, just take to to mazda, but if i had to guess, your engine may be done, you pushed it way beyond its limits and it may already be blown
