GM didn't fall as much becuase hummer isnt considered theirs anymore?
So are they penalized for it in 07 when they owned it but now or vice versa?

im surprised mazdas drop was so significant... 35% is nuts i expected more middle of the pac numbers for them based on their small car high milleage offerings... though last years numbers could have been boosted due to cx-7/9 sales which obviously aren't selling well at all anymore.

The Mazda5 fared very well, but it's still a small portion of the whole Mazda line-up. Also note it is sep 08 vs. sep 07 last year, overall for the year, compared to last, Mazda is down "just" 5.7%.

I heard on the radio part of the lack of car sales is not just gas related, but also the fact that no bank is giving car purchase credit the way they did for the last years.

IRVINE, Calif., Oct 01, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today reported September 2008 sales of 16,169 vehicles, down 35.6 percent over last September. Year-to-date, Mazda has sold 215,408 vehicles, down 5.7 percent.

The all-new 2009 MAZDA6, which arrived at dealerships across the country in September, is off to a great start and exceeded sales objectives for the month. The new MAZDA6 features a larger body than the outgoing car, as well as more powerful -- and more fuel efficient -- engine choices.

The right-for-the-market MAZDA5 multi-activity vehicle posted a 26.8 percent increase versus last September, with 1,080 sales. Year-to-date the MAZDA5 is up a remarkable 42.0 percent.

Mazda Motor de Mexico (MMdM) celebrated its best-ever September with sales of 1,780 vehicles, up 29 percent versus last year. On a year-to-date basis, MMdM reported 13,305 total sales, accounting for a 33 percent increase versus last year. Mazda Canada Inc. (MCI) reported September sales of 6,762 units, down a slight 4.2 percent.

Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., Mazda North American Operations oversees the sales, marketing, parts and customer service support of Mazda vehicles in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico through nearly 900 dealers. people are going smaller, the MAZDA5 is a brilliant car that I'm sure most people dont even know about. I was driving my brand new family hauler PT 'GT turbo' Cruiser and noticed the 5 next to me was very similar in size and shape. I guess the pt is shorter than a neon, but compaired to my msp when I get in this thing its HUGE. I can't imagine most people NEED more room than the 5 allows and its selling well because of its people/stuff carrying ability, cheap price, and excellent gas milage. Very smart car in todays market for mazda.

Also when I bought my car the sales dude was telling me that it is rare to find someone who doesn't have to fight for credit nowadays. they are loosing lots of sales because the banks are simply rejecting the loans. He told me that even people with 650 credit scores are being turned down frequently.

Yes they make things other than SUVs but they still don't have the a reputation for quality vehicles either, which is another reason why they have been losing revenue and cutting jobs.

Having a small or large volume of sales is factored in since the numbers are in percentages.
