Rumors of a new Volvo hot hatch have gotten hot again with talk of a new 300-horsepower C30 for Europe. According to reports, the new model would be powered by the same 2.5-liter inline-five cylinder turbo engine that powers the new Ford Focus RS. One difference between the two cars, which share a similar platform, is that the Swedish beauty would be offered with a Haldex all-wheel drive system in contrast to the Blue Oval's torque-steer inducing front-engine, front-drive layout. Larger 20-inch wheels ought to fill out the arches quite nicely, and a special body kit should bring the whole look closer to the tarmac. To keep demand high, Volvo may limit the new model to 4,500 units worldwide, though we have no idea where it will offer the hatch besides the U.K. Considering that the Swedish automaker has diluted its R-nameplate, we're also not certain what this performance-minded C30 will be called, but we're sure it'll be the most fun we've had in a Volvo for quite a long time.

Awesome.

The V70 R and S60 R were pretty damned cool. This appears to be the same drivetrain as those two had, but in a much smaller/lighter car. Should be a beast.

I'd want one, but the price would turn me off to it. This thing is bound to cost over 30k.

Probably. IIRC, the V70R/S60R started around $40k. I can't imagine this would cost that much, but I'd bet it'll be in the low to mid 30's.

A friend of mine got an s60r new for 43k.. He got a decent deal on it too. The base c30 starts at 24k.. I think my ballpark is 33-35. Time will tell.

thats funny, they are giving them away for less than 20k now super low miles...because they sucked...sadly this car will probably look good, but will suck as well.

That being said, the price on S60R's are sooo cheap now I even considered buying one myself.

FINALLY!! Another person besides me that hates the S60R. I just remember my friend's car.. The leather turned to shit really quickly, the suspension got stuck in sport mode and the computer needed to be reflashed a bunch of times. The clutch was a steaming pile of garbage, and despite the sport body kit, it was still a boring car.

Sounds like it'll be a fun car...too bad about that unfortunate looking rear-end. Haven't seen something that ugly since the Toyota FX-16

I really want a V70R, but haven't ever really considered an S60R. I don't have any personal experience with them, I just want a badass wagon. Stop crushing my dreams! (wedge)

My s60r has way better build quality than the Mazdaspeed had. Seats and interior is way better too. Even after I put leather in the Mazda.

The car does feel a bit more disconnected, the shift linkage uses cables and the throttle is electronic.

The car is a rocket with awesome amenities. Definitely not a "race car" but for a daily driver I couldnt be happier. Plus, I dont have the big f-ing wing that my mazda had on it.(drunk)

Two different market segments. I still kick myself for not buying that Volvo S60 R. But I will be alot happier with a BMW M3.

No he drives the 2010 XC60 in New Moon, which comes out on the 20th I believe, and in Twilight he drove a 2009 C30 T5. In the books he drove a Volvo S60R.

Yeah it was the only thing I found out about the books that I liked. I guess cars play a big role in the books.

I love the way Volvo's look, I think they are geared to professional adults that have children but I look forward to owning one when I start a family...
Well if Florida lets me. ;]

I s'pose that's where you and I differ.

I think they are chunky, boxy, and yawn inducing. They are mommy-mobiles through and through. And talk about overpriced.. sheesh.

Before you play the s60r card, I've driven one. I hated every second of it. The computer controlled suspension needed to be reflashed by the dealer every 40 seconds because it malfunctioned all the time. The clutch was an inspired work of evil, and it still handled like a boring volvo. Forget the sticker price.. For the same amount of money, at the time you could buy a FAR FAR FAR superior G35 6 speed in coupe or sedan form.

No I kind of agree with you but I just see who Volvo is marketing.... I've never been in a S60R I almost bought a used S40 in place of my new Mazda3 and then I almost got a C30 when they came out.

Volvos haven't been boxy and ugly for quite a few years. Their newer designs about as far away from boxy as you can get. I can definitely see the C30 being a love it or hate it design, though. personally, I love it. If they'd had a true performance option (that didn't get slammed for wishy-washy handing with numb steering) I would have been all over it instead of my Mazda3.
