So Im not sure if this has been done yet or not, but its worth a try. as i have been in the process getting into a new car. i own a mazda3 and have been lookin into the speed3, but as much of the price difference it is...i have been looking HEAVILY into the new sti. im kinda of interested in to see what i might get on the trade in on my 3. its an 06 with just under 34k miles and in really good condition. what did everybody else get out of before you got your speed? that is if you traded your old car in for the speed. make/model/year/mileage etc. and how much did you get on your trade?

coming from the suby world, I would not get an 08 sti. The tune from the factory is horrid. I have seen numerous STOCK engines pop right on the track. The car is solid though and looks amazing, you will immediately need to get some sort of em to make the car run proper. Just a heads up...

I traded a 2000 Toyota Celica GT-S just today.
I got 6500 for the car. It had 80xxx miles. If you do jump onto the 08 STI
Be sure it get's the revised map flashed onto the ecu.
I too have seen many 08 engines pop before 10k miles.

yeah, i have read this also...if i indeed do go with the sti....i had planned on getting a flash an tune done to it ASAP. i love my mz3 so thats why im kind of teetering back and forth.

that is NUTS! the speed3 is the the bargain of the centruy! why would you get a used sti over a new speed3? the only advatage for sti is from a dig cuase 4whd. i smoke stis all the time..

Yea, I dont get it. You can have a BRAND NEW car for less than a used STI that some other turd beat the crap out of guaranteed. Doesnt make sense. Also, a used STI is still worth more than a new Speed3.

whether it be the speed or the sti...i plan on buying NEW. not used. the last thing i want is a car like the speed or sti thats been beat to hell. but as far as a speed beating an sti. hmmmm im gonna have to see proof :rolleyes:

Having had two scoobs, 02 WRX and 04 STi, here are my pros and cons for the MS3:
Pros:
1. MS3 is definetly a sleeper. No dirty looks from cops, no honda kids wanting to race you in every stop light.
2. I believe that the build quality on the ms3, especially on the interior, is better quality and that of the STI. Furthermore, I think the seats on the MS3 are more supportive than the one of the scoob.
3. The money you are going to save on the MS3 versus the STI could be easily put on the MS3, and have a very close to comparable perfomance on the straights.
4. The people here are alot nicer than at NABISCO

CONS:
1. FWD. The STI rotates beautifully, especially after playing with the suspension/camber.
2. Limited Aftermarket parts compared to the Subaru, but I believe this will change as time goes on.
3. Brakes: Going from Brembos to the stock MS3 brakes was certainly a rude awakening.


Overall, i believe that the STI shouldnt be compared to an MS3. The MS3 should be targeted more towards that new 09 WRX that was heavily revised and improved.

maybe it was just mine, but our 04 had some nasty rattles.

What do you think about that new 09 WRX? I havent sat in a new one yet, simply cause i cant stand the way they look, but the interior should be way nicer than before.

The 06 sti puts out about 235 at the wheels stock same as the speed but its heavier... the 08 sti puts out 265 at the wheels stock BUt its 350lbs heavier, so stock to stock its the same. You cant compare a vid or this or that with out an explanation of mods. mods make power im lightly modded and make 267hp on dynojet if i had dp i would be at 290+whp. If one car is modded and anothger isnt it makes all the diff.

Man, every sub that I have gotten in looks like really cheap inside, whether its the wrx sedan, STI or the WRX wagon, they all look really cheap compared to the Mazdaspeed3. My buddy just got an 08 wrx with the Nav and all, and he still thinks my interior looks way better quality.

lol see proof? have u not seen videos. all my friends drive suby's on a 40 roll i owned my buddy's turbo back sti... he took me till about 80 then my fender poked out by 110 he was at my back wheels it aint hard

no offense speed3type2 but u cant compare dyno's different elevations ect. i watched in person an 08 ms3 dyno 246 to the wheels STOCK

every video i've seen has been close. but no cigar. suby has won every time....not by much AT ALL though. im not really looking for THE ABSOLOUTLY FASEST CAR out there.though...just nice and will last. extra kick is a plus though :D i live in Tampa...and every speed i see has some stupid ass kid racing in an out an through traffic like a f****** moron. you dont see anyone driving the 08 sti..why? cause stupid kids cant afford them, ive seen three around tampa so far. an has been an older guy driving every one. having something alot of people dont have would be nice. ( even though thats impossible ) esp something some stupid ass kid is racing to get somewhere 5mins quicker. im 21, still pretty much a kid myself. but i wont have mom and dad buying me my car...speed or sti. im sure ill be more than happy with it either way. i love my 3 hatch, and the 09 do look alot nicer than 07 an earlier 08's. we"ll just have to see what it comes down to when i go an look into the two cars.
