View Full Version : VTCS-Less Intake Mani Problem?

Ok...had the MSP turbo kit on my Pro for about 4 months and around 10K miles. Had the turbo kit removed and car put back to stock, and replaced my intake mani with one that had the VTCS removed. Now the car idles very low. Low to the point that the dash lights come on...and this is when the car is nice and warm. When I first start it up the motor sounds fine...for about 30 seconds. The car had 187K miles on it when we boosted it, and now it has about 202K...
Before the new intake mani this never happened, but now it's constant. Anyone know what it could be? Maybe I messed something up when I had the turbo on the car? It was boosted at stock level 24/7, and I rarely even pushed it hard when it was boosted.

same thing happened to me when i took the vtcs out. it was fixed by instaling an Mp3 Ecu.

Mp3 ecu...hmmm.

Did you reset the ECU? Perhaps your idle adjustment got screwed up. Or the throttle cable that is attached to the back of the intake manifold got lengthened.
Lots of people have taken the VTCS out of their manifolds without this problem- I have.

How do you reset the ecu? I know when we put the intake mani back on and started the car, at first it would idle fine, but then the rpms would jump...the throttle body was stuck.
But I will get that throttle cable checked...and how do you adjust the idle?

Check out the FSM at http://www.floptical.net/mazda/ and there is specs for the throttle cable length. I screwed that up when I installed my VTCS-less manifold.
Is the car hunting for the idle or is it just idling really low? When I screwed up the throttle cable and made it too long, the car would hunt for the idle.
To reset the ECU, disconnect the battery and hit the brakes a few times. I think you can also touch the disconnected battery cable to the other cable.

Well, it idles fine, but then 20 seconds later the idle just drops...the car almost cuts off every 20 seconds.
I'll reset the ecu during lunch today...thanks.

i would check for a vacuum leak. Start at the TB and work around to the head. Spray carb cleaner and see if the idle jumps. When i changed my intake manifold i induced a leak at the TB and the head. sigh...

If it was a vaccume leak the car would totally die wouldn't it? Thats what happened when I had a vaccume leak after modding my intake manifold. It sounds like it is the throttle body cable. My car has been doing the same thing but I think I have a leak in my exhaust some where. I think I might check the cable though too
