Hey I am going to be in the market for a mazdaspeed 6 in a few months here.
and well i really wanna do my research before i buy it.
I know there is a psi and hp differance between the two years.
But i was also wondering if anyone can confirm that the 2006 msp 6 is the only year with the two trim leather option. cause i want that????

There is no PSI difference between the two years. There is a 4 horsepower difference between the two years, the 2007 uses a more conservative tune but still eeks out 270 hp. The 2006 originally had 274, but if your buying a 2006, chances are that it was reflashed by the dealer to the 2007 tune.

2007 also only had 4 colors to choose from. Do not know about the 2-tone leather thing.

Two-tone leather was only a 2006 option. 07's had black and...black.

2006 Colors were
-Black Cherry Mica
-Crystal White (Whitewater) Pearl
-Liquid Platinum Metallic
-???

2007:
-Velocity Red Mica
-Black Mica
-Liquid Platinum Metallic
-Titanium Grey Metallic

And don't let the '07 tune change your decision. There's no butt dyno fine enough to tell the difference. In fact, when I had my '06 reflashed at the dealer, it drove a lot better. The throttle was a lot smoother. Chances are, just about all MS6's have that tune nowadays.

IIRC leather is an option for both years. What exterior color are you wanting? I think Black Cherry was only availible in '06.

Matter of fact, my car is about to turn 3. It was built in October '05. (drunk)

Agreed ^^^

Dont sweat the HP "difference" really...This car is amazing, you'll love it.

What I dont get about you man is how you can be so picky about ur future MS6? Where do you live? I mean, this is a fairly "rare" car...I'd just be happy to FIND an MS6 near me that conformed to my mileage/price ranges and condition, should I be in the market for one.(uhm)

Eric, What do you call the 2 tone, IIRC leather? (huh)

But just for the record, I TOTALLY agree with the whole researching thing...best decision I ever made...

Yeah ok thanks guys, so no psi differance got it.
Yeah i checked and the cherry black didnt come in 07.

Well i live In canada Alberta. so the market here sucks for it. only 3 for sale in the WHOLE PROVINCE. but im buying in the states anyways. and i really dont care where, so really have the whole USA to buy.

Plus this is the car i have wanted to get for a long time, so i figure i want the best possible option i want, right?
And yes milage/price is still really important escpecially since its a turbo the lower miles the better.

I really like iehter Black, Red, or white.
But again the two trim leather(IIRC leather, Dont understand what that means) only comes in 06, i havent seen a 07 2 trim avialable yet. but 06 will usually mean more miles.

and yeah ill prolly buy a few things like a blow off valve for the car before i buy it so i can have things ready to go. and If it takes more time to buy the excat model i want, then so be it. my protege is still looking nice and holidng up.

I call it pimp skin; but I'm not sure what Mazda calls it. (dunno) The two-tone is definitely leather though; therefore only availible on GT models.

All years had the Sport or GT trim option, plus Nav as a second option. Probably a lot of the '07s are still in garages and not turning up on the lots just yet. That's probably why you're finding so many '06s and so few '07s. When picking one of these cars, choose the color and interior you want, then wait until you find the right one.

When I bought mine in late '07, I had to choose between a low milage '06 GT and a brand new '07 Sport. I got the loaded GT cheaper than the brand new car and kept the warranty and all that jazz. I wouldn't have done it any different; since it was the only Black Cherry they ever got; and since it was already discontinued, it was the only one they ever will. Yeah it's a hella rare car, and most folks don't give it a second look. But there are plenty in my area that have seen the back end of it and wondered WTF just passed me?

Speaking of warranty, the 2006 had a 4yr/50k warranty, while the 2007 had the 3yr/36k warranty.

Oh snap yeah I forgot that!! '06 warranty! (rockon) My '06 is still under warranty, whereas the brand new '07 I looked at would be almost out by now.

Did they also change it for the Canadian models? I've seen 3y/80 000km somewhere for the 2006 models, but I don't know if that's the case or not since I bought mine used.
Usually here, we see 3y/60 000km on bumper to bumper warranties.

THATS GOTTA BE THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE IT!

I seriousley laughed for 10 minutes when I read that!

rapter, I did what you're considering, and had a broker source, adapt, and deliver my car to me. So far it's worked out great. I got my 06 Speed6 in Whitewater Pearl, which I LOVE, and it had 8,000 miles on it. It was sold in '07 in New Jersey, so it still has lots of warranty left, and my local dealer called it in and got all the sale-date and everything he needed to continue the US warranty up here when I took it in for it's first Canadian service a little while ago. Do your research, and if you're having a car brought up for you (especially if you're using a broker), make sure you wait for the right one to come along. Best of luck!

If you're looking for an 06, make sure that you take it to the dealer and have the TSBs performed. The clutch, CDFP, and several others will improve the car and its reliability in the long run.

Yeah, I actually helped my dad in his Mitsu brining it in from USA, and my friends 08 WRX as well. si i have a really good idea of what its like, i actually think im gonna do it myself, save a little more money, just take 2 days off work. But yeah White is what i think i want as well.

Well If the 2 trim leather comes in 07 as well then i think ill just go with a newer 07, ill just wait till a 2 tone leather 07 shows up.

But wait i gotta check this warranty thing cause if i buy it in the states. i wonder which wrranty will apply the canadian version or the USA version,( and yes the Canadian one is 3 yr/60,000 Km, i checked it out).

So really the only differance is warranty, Year, and No mica cherry black.
Does the 2 trim leather with nav option come on every other color. Black, red and White? Any thing else i should Know, I am really gonna take my time.

Hey Rapter, good luck in your search for your Speed6. It will be nice to see another one here in Calgary. I bought mine new in '06 and at the time the dealer had a black GT with the black and white interior. It looked pretty cool and I almost bought it, but in the end decided on the Liquid Platinum Metalic with the black leather.

Sorry I didn't read the whole thread, but there is NO difference in boost pressure or actual HP in the `06/`07 years. The difference is in how the HP is calculated and ALL cars were affected, not just Mazda. The engines, basic tunes, etc are the same... The "reflashes" were to help alleviate a timing retard and subsequent loss of power due to low octane fuel caused knock and one to correct a mechanical fuel pump spill valve open/close scheduling problem.

Your in Calgary? Sell you mine for 25,000 ;)

Actually no, I won't. But you should looking into getting one in the states if you know anyone that could go check one out for you.

I paid $21,000 to get my '06 Speed 6 with 30,000 miles sitting on my driveway, registered with a plate. In PERFECT shape (besides the A/C which gave out on the way up).

Nice yeah im really excited, But i have to keep my excitment to a minimum. Cause i wanna do this right.
HAHAHA 25,000 Nice. And thanks darlyzoom, yeah i cant wait iether, prolly will end up getting it really early spring, wanna wait winter out and wait till a 07 2 trim leather show sup in the states. Serious CANT FIND ONE! got my uncle in Chicago to help me out.

Next Question(IMPORTANT!)
Does the speed 6 require 93 octane fuel? cause thats hard to come by in Calgary, a few gas stations, but generally 91 octane is the highest around here. So can the speed 6 take 91 without and pinging problems or anything of that nature?

I hope so cause thats what I've been giving mine! :P
There's only one station that I know of with anything better the 91 but its pretty sketchy as lately alot of people have been having issues after filling up with it. The Husky in Sundance.

Hey and 25,000 is very good for here! 60,000 kms on mine, The cheapest one with that kind've of milage that I found was $30,000! (headbang)

09-26-2008, 07:59 AM
yeah you are right, right now there is only 3 for sale in ALL of ALBERTA!
is yours 2 trim leather with nav? color?

yeah topic continue for 91 vs 93 octane fuel?

djpatm
09-26-2008, 02:18 PM
No, I got the sport. White leather gets dirty too easily and I couldn't find a dark leather one. Too bad I really wanted a nav.

In the manual it says 93(?) is prefered, 91 is acceptable, 89 emergency use only. Or something close to that effect

rapter
09-26-2008, 05:54 PM
So Djpatm you live in calgary, you fill up with 93, or mostly with 91.
Oh yours is Cloth? hmmm never thought of white and dirt, but its leather most things are pretty easily cleaned off. Plus in that car NO DIRT! lol.

Well i just went to Kramer mazda to check how much it is for transmission service $220.00 for a full flush and cleaning. using Dexron 2 or 3.
You think thats worth it?

Well while i was there they just a 2007 Black Speed6 with Black leather, no nav. with 37,000Km for $29,000.
Not bad!

djpatm
09-26-2008, 06:45 PM
I always filled up 91. I actually never thought about. I don't think I'd get one yet.

True, NO DIRT! Haha.
I dunno though. At the auction in Florida I paid 17,000 for mine which had 26,000 miles. So if you can find one somewhere close like say Montana and have no one screw you out of dealership fees you could save probably 10 Grand.

but importing isn't for everyone. It's quite a head ache. 29000 for one here is actually really good so if you dont want the headaches of importing or are intimidated by the process or whatever I'd say look into it.

rapter
09-27-2008, 12:57 AM
Oh yeah i have no problem with importing, i have some experience under my belt with that, did my friends 08 wrx for him and my dads mitsu as well.
No big deal i just take a day or 2 off work. just need to be organized and have check lists to make sure you have everything.

Anyways Why would you say that i shouldnt get one YET? and no im not im waiting till prolly spring when there are more 07's for sale for a more depreciated value. WOW 17 grand THATS CHEAP!
yeah 29 grand isnt too bad actually, but still i see like private sales in the like IDAHO for like 20 grand with like 10,000 km less. and usually with nav.
And i know warranty is valid to canada i talked to Mazda corp in Japan and its approved.

djpatm
09-27-2008, 05:03 AM
Yup warrenty is just transfered over. If you have someone who can check the car out before you buy it then I honestly can't see why not get it from the states...

I'll put it this way... When I sell my car in 4-5 years I'll probably lose a grand TOPS on my "on the driveway" price (that includes the travel, tarrifs... etc) and still probably make 3 grand over the auctioned price.

Then I'll be crusin in either a G37, Genesis Coupe (depending on the interior quality) or M3... ;-)

09-27-2008, 02:30 PM
Yeah good stuff, yeah i have my uncle in Chicago, so im trying for that area. But if its somewhere close, and even then ill try to get all info before i go, shouldnt be a problem. excatly!
I bought a 2008 Subaru Impreza wrx for my friend in Salt lake. for $25,000. plus taxes and travel came out to 28,150. and i have antoher friend that bought the car here for 35,500. so he still saved alot.

which is what i plan to do. found a 2 trim leather in alberta for 35 GRAND, yeah right, im not paying that. lol

djpatm
09-27-2008, 03:20 PM
You see haha. I don't know why us Canadian consumer's just sit there and take these super high prices.

Imporitng sets you up awesomly for your next car though. Paid Little then you sell and still get a 20 Grand return.

rapter
09-28-2008, 01:51 AM
Yeah! i KNOW its crazy. I never buying a car here. untill prices go down, ( if they never do, then i never will buy)

So i found out the 220 bucks the mazda dealer chargers for a trans service on my protege. I went to minit lube and they did it for $130. Crazy!
