And even worse, Mazda will not cover it under warranty. I has come to the point of me having to hire a lawyer to go after those bastards. I will not ever purchase another Mazda product ever again due to the fact that they do not stand behind their product (this is not the only problem that I have had with the car - had to have the rotors turned twice, once at about 5k miles and then finally replaced at about 11k miles)

I am building a case against Mazda and really need to know if anyone has had any major engine problems with the 2006 or newer Mazda 6i 4-Cylinder.

More info would be helpful. Is your car under warranty? Is your car modified at all? Do you have receipts for oil changes / maintenance? What is the reason they gave for denying your claim?

The car is not modified at all and yes, it is still under warranty. They are denying my claim based on the simple fact that I extended about 3 oil changes past 3K without even having someone - a shop tear down the motor to see if that is really the reason the motor went bad. I am in the process of securing a lawyer and have all paperwork pertaining to the warranyt and all service work performed.

Not that you need to post the specifics (may not be the best thing to do if you may seek legal action in the future) but if you did exceed the oil change interval (how much you exceeded them by may make a difference) Mazda may have a legitimate reason to deny your claim. Check your warranty paperwork.

screwed or not, I don't know, but from a warranty standpoint it is better to be able to prove that you changed your oil at proper intervals

What exactly happened at the time the motor died? Was there a puddle of oil under the car or was it run dry?

I have always changed my own fluids but these days at least with Mazda it seems if you want warranty coverage you need to document everything yourself or just take it to the dealer.

For $25 you can send an oil sample to black labs or whatever they are called and have your oil analyzed. My 2.3l in my 04 mazda3 didnt want the oil changed but every 5k-7k miles. The dealership wanted $24 to do it and the guy down the street was $19. Something else is wrong with this picture, like no oil in the car at all and no proof of a recent change to blame it on.
