I've got an 08.5 speed 3 with only 2k on her and already have issues with release bearing noise. Sometimes it's bad enough that it sounds like there's a marble in my tranny, or atleast till u put the clutch in. ANYONE else having this issue? And what was the end result.?

Yep, i have the same noise. As do many other speed owners, its the throw out bearing.

I had the noise for 20k miles dealer said no worries just tranny noise.

So you never thought about taking it in to have them change it? I've had the sympton since 900 miles and so far it's not getting worse but just making sure that's something they are going to honor down the road.

there is nothing to worry about it, its honestly how the transmission wears. Some car make the noise louder then others, my buddys evo sounds ten times worse then the ms3 bearing but it is all normal... I know it sounds bad, but i doubt the dealer will help you, mine diddnt.

I spoke to the service guy at the dealer already but I'm waitin for my first oil change to bring it in for them to check it out. I really hate to have them tear into my new car but better safe then sorry down the road. Oh and I assure u they WILL help me cuz the general sales manager is a close friend and he sold me the car, Lucky me I suppose.

I've noticed the same thing on mine. The throw-out bearing, when unloaded, was noisy with only 30 miles on the car!

When you press the clutch in, the noise goes away as the bearing is loaded at that point.

I wonder why there isn't a TSB or something for this issue, it makes the car sound like crap, just paid 25K for something that sounds like a chevy? what's up with that? Have to ask the dealer tomorrow to clarify. or maybe we should draft a letter to MAZDA USA??

I have the same problem, I got it back from the dealer and they said it was normal, I have a friend with the same problem on his RX-8. Do any of you hear a tick when your at a stand still and simply go thru the gears? Espesially 1st & 3rd gear.

it sounds just like a marble is rattling in the tranny, but once u put the clutch in it's gone.

Its totally normal...even though its bothersome. All Mazdas do it...

My friend's 2009 MS3 also has a noisy throw-out bearing.

Hmm, don't know why they aren't doing a recall or something on this, that just makes me not want to buy another mazda :( and it's made in JAPAN!

I checked today with a friend that's got a 06 mx5 that she races and no noise there, and it's running on a stock clutch setup with NO noises. Oh well when it gets worse I'll have them take care of it.

I think we need a better description of the noise. Would you say it is a click, or a tick?
Does it sound like a skipping cd when you shift? If so I am getting the same noise, but did not notice it till I swapped out the stock BPV.

I think he is referring to the throwout bearing noise that you near during idle. You could hear shafts rotating or as if the input shaft was vibrating...then when you depress the clutch, the sound goes away. It's an ugly sound, but its much quieter than my previous Mazdas; or maybe its my exhaust thats loud... (lol2)

If you let your engine idle while its parked, turn off the radio, a/c, anything that makes noise, and listen, depress the clutch, and listen again, you'll hear a difference in sound...

We would need a better description of the sound...seems like from your posts, it might be more than the normal Mazda manual tranny sound.

Really? because my msp dosent make it at 58k and neither does any protege for that ive ever worked on. I dont recall my friends ms3 making any clutch chatter at idle

AutoXRacer

Its not an obvious sound...you have to listen for it. And its not really clutch chatter...more like rotating shafts...

My Miata and everyone elses Miata that I knew did it...straight from the factory after a few 1000 miles. I'm talking about over 20 Miatas that I personally knew. Now the MS3... I've tried numerous times to get rid of it in my old Miata; changing out pilot bearings, through-out bearings, and different greases, even Mazda was not able to get rid of the sound.

Maybe you Protege guys lucked out... But I bet most of them do it too.
Then I should say, most Mazdas do it... (lol2)

NOPE definately sounds like a loose marble inside the tranny, sounds exactly like a rattle, until the clutch is depressed then all good, release and bam there it is. Mine actually is starting to sound worse today. Definately have to get it checkd out.
