Excuse my grammar-I'm on an iPhone. We picked up our new ms3 on Monday and so far it has 620 miles. Since the beginning we noticed a strange plastic/rubber smell, usually when we drive slow or stop the car. We can't really tell where it comes from. Anyone had the same?
Well stop at a dealer if it won't go away, right now were roadtripping through germany. Oh and we drove slow the first 500 miles
Thanks

Cool timeline of your MS3 :)
Is the smell coming through your vents? It could be the engine bay smell coming through which is normal for new cars. It shouldn't last too much longer.

My 09 was kinda stinky at first too. It went away after about 700 miles.
A nice, juicy fart (preferably with loved ones trapped inside and the window lock button pressed) will make you forget all about that new car smell.

Most new cars will have that kind of thing going on the first few heat cycles...it's normal...just things getting used to being really hot.

When I had the cat-back exhaust put on my Ram, there was a metallic burning smell for a few days. I figured it was a protective coating on the pipes. Your situation is probably similar.

I had the same problem. I assumed it was me frying the clutch while learning to drive stick. Open the engine bay while the smell is going on... it should smell pretty strongly in there too.

Thanks for all your help. We just stopped at a Mazda dealer on the way home, he also said it's normal. It got a little less too, I'm at 900 miles now, I believe.
So here are some pictures, nothing professional, just a few from our trip.
If you know Europe a little, you will know we drove quite a bit- being in Switzerland on Sat and Sun (w/ my husbands S2000), and then Monday to today in Flensburg (most northern city in Germany) and Denmark.
Anyway, the car's doing a great job on the Autobahn, I can finally keep up with all the fast driving cars :) I'll post a picture tomorrow of my old car lol

new clutch smell??? or the it could be minor build up in engine that is being released.

Man, sharp car! When you take your first trip underneath, please take a picture of the oil filter. I've read that the Speeds in your neck of the woods get spin-on filters. Some confirmation would be greatly appreciated.

Very nice. I thought they had MPS badges in Europe. Did they change the spec?

Hey guys,
it's an american spec. So same model you guys have. the european models don't have the big spoiler (hah)
the guy from mazda said it's just the smell from a new car, since everything is waxed, bla...can't really explain what he really said.
Here are some pics of my old car, a 2000 VW Lupo, 75 hp - quite an upgrade (yippy)

I would like to see a Speed3 without a spoiler!
I'd totally drive that Lupo, but I guess the lack of power would be quite scary on the American highways... even more so on the Autobahn!

The Lupo does 120mph straight. It's a nice car, but it's kinda scary if you go fast.
Here's a picture of the European Mazda MPS, it has a spoiler, but much smaller.
