If you don't have previous experience with timing belts, I suggest you don't do this yourself. One tiny slip-up and you're risking your entire engine..

Otherwise, here's a diagram that kinda shows everything that's going on.

How so setting your timing belt its really not that hard. If its off a tooth its not hard to find. The motor is a non interference motor so you dont have ot worry about piston to valve slap

machine shops says that the cylinder head is too warped to get shaved(cryhard).Anyone have one for sale or know where to get one? It's a 2002 protege.. 2.0 The block should still be good right? It also had a burnt valve...I'm going to price out buying the whole engine locally in a few days as well. Trying to find out which way to go..Thanks

if you have enough miles on it - juts get a rebuilt long block. Almost as much labor.
