I want to order a Test Pipe for my Speed 3 but My wife does not like me modding the new car. She does not drive the Speed and will never know I put it on but she will notice the big brown box on the porch. I've thought about having it sent to a friends house but companies will send only to the billing address on the credit card. How do I get the pipe? There has to be other guys out there that have had this problem. Any suggestions?

With only the Test pipe and stock everything else I don't expect it to be louder. I heard a clip before and after on Youtube and it was deeper but not louder. I could be wrong though.

It'll be deeper at idle and a tad bit louder when you romp on it. Maybe she'll notice...maybe she won't. lol... make sure you think about the consequences if she finds out.
Love my tp.
Good luck!

Mine didn't notice and she usually notices everything. I think you're safe. Can't you get a friend or co-worker to order it and pay them back?

Don't hide it from her. Tell her your getting it and thats it. Argue that she gets to go clothes shopping and make-up and other useless junk. Or take her out to dinner to smooth things over. But don't hide it because she will flip. Trust me. If you have extra money, what does she care.
Cars are my hobby and my wife knows that. As long as I keep her happy and it doesn't get in the way of her and us time, she's cool with it. I figured out how to walk that fine line.

the option to have a co-worker/friend get it for you and pay them back is a good option. honestly, the person above me has the best advice. just tell her, if she finds out you lied or hid something from her, she probably will flip the fuck out
i spend money on my car, not my gf and every now and then she gets testy, but i tell her to shut the fuck up and we're ok.
when i was married, it was a different fucking story. i didn't spend money unless the other party knew what it was for and approved

In a situation like that, you do it first and ask for forgiveness after the fact. This way you get what you want with as little bitching as possible.
Or you just get a Mailboxes Etc. mailbox and have all your non-wife approved parts / porn sent there.

Everytime I order parts I have them sent to my work, no problem. My billing address is my home.... so you shouldn't have a problem.

Call the CC company and tell them what you are doing, ordering and wanting to ship to another address (work). Then, CALL the supplier you are ordering from to place your order and tell them what you are doing. They will want the 800 number on the back of the card to verify and then they will ship. Issue resolved... Discreet brown packaging... Just like the porn. LOL...

My wife would laugh her ass off. Scrap booking is no where near as expensive as Modding...
you'd be surprised. my sister did that shit for a while and it was not cheap!
anyway, this is what we do...
of course we have a central account, but we also have our own accounts into which we can put money that we make individually, so that we may spend what we want ON what we want. This way you avoid the ridiculousness that the OP has to face. Why would i expect my wife to work for the mods on my car? i wouldn't...i'd earn the cash for my little account myself, and spend it on myself.
People might frown on any such examples of "non-unity", but it works. the fact remains a marriage is made up of two individuals, and it's not unreasonable for them to have differing interests. sometimes those interests cost money (within reason) and if you are using your own money to pay for them, what the heck does it matter? I modded cars before i met my wife, i built model jets before i met my wife, i raced RC cars before i met my wife, i played football before i met my wife. i'm not stopping these things because suddenly she is married to me...and on the same coin i don't expect her to pay for them, so i use some of my cash to handle them all. it doesn't interfere with me supporting her, it doesn't keep me from paying our bills and contributing to investments....
stripping away individuality is part of what degrades marriages. "we, we, we" works to an extent, but the problem is one person will always dominate the other in that case. if you don't keep some individuality, you have an unbalanced relationship despite the facade of "we".

Are you crazy? Just wait till the first time it needs some warranty work. She'll be finding out then. And it might just cost you a bunch. All that for just 10 or 15 hp, only at high rpms. Are you racing this ting? If not it's a waste considering your situation.

Is your wife more concerned that your modding a new car and may void the warranty or is it about the money.
I hate to say it but if its about the warranty I can see her point.
You got to ask yourself how far you want to go with this lie if you end up buying it. Say the engine dies and Mazda voids the warranty? What will you tell her then?
Jut playing devils advocate here.

What are you trying to accomplish with the test pipe other than violate federal law? If you want to be faster, take a high performance driving school at a local road course instead...that will make your car much faster than a test pipe...

Get a couple of hookers over at the same time as you install. Guaranteed the test pipe won't be a problem.

Thanks guy for all the advise. Some of it was very funny. I'm not worried about the warranty issue because a test pipe is not going to blow up the car. I'm only doing mods that are easily reversed for dealer visits and a TP is just such a mod. I don't track my car but would like to get all the power I can out of the car short of upping the boost. I will get a DP once the warranty expires as that mod is not easily reversed. I'm going to have a friend order the TP for me.
I now need advise from those that have TP's. Which one to buy. I'm concerned mostly about fitment. I dont list the one with the flex pipe because I fear it will not hold up.
SU Test pipe (In stock)
SLS test pipe (In stock)
CS test pipe (Out of stock)
PTP Test pipe (Not sure)

you track whores singing the songs of road course exploits need to get a life (bolt)
the one thing that sold most of us on this car, the main aspect that sealed the deal, was the power, specifically the torque. Sure we like the 4 doors with a hatch, sure we like the look, or the overall value, but the 263hp and 280lbft is what sealed the deal. showcasing that power is such an accessible activity during the average menial drive; it's something you can do in any number of ways, safely and legally, on pretty much any public road anywhere and any time.
it could be merging into traffic, pulling away from a toll, passing a line of slow moving traffic- these are examples that you see everyday, and the fun had has everything to do with pressing the pedal and feeling the torque and very little to do with lateral G's. sure, fantastic handling is great, and coupled with some skill certainly can be very rewarding and in fact life saving, but during the daily drive, there is little to no outlet for much of anything that can be had on a road course.
i'd invest more time into promoting track time for sport bike enthusiasts, where it really makes sense, as opposed to preaching to those who for the most part are looking for more power for the daily commute as 280ftlbs is just not enough after a while. i mean, just take a look through most of the this forum- a heavy, heavy percentage want more power, they want to go faster...not on a road course, but in the real world.
i understand the handling game...you'll see me promoting the new eibach pro-kit release countless times on this forum, but let's not forget where we are here and what car we're talking about!

IMHO, it is the ones that don't think a 0-60mph time in less than 6 seconds and a top speed of 150mph is not enough for the street that need to "get a life"; it is more than plenty. The truth is that most who crave more power for the sake of some number on a dyno cannot handle the power the car already has stock. It is usually the same people who only read the HP figures when they read a magazine road test. But, I did the same thing when I was a little boy. FYI, I have seen a novice in Viper out run on Roebling Road in Savannah by a Civic because the Viper driver could not drive...Start modifying for more power once you can drive the car at 10/10ths on a road course for a few laps...

well...first and foremost, let it be known that arguing with a lawyer, on the internet no less, is the epitome of wasting time. it simply doesn't get any worse than that. you have made quite a few wildly off-base inferences and generalizations that make it an even further waste of time trying to counter (if that is even possible).
i will say, however, that your closemindedness is nothing new. it certainly predates the intenet age, haha. for every die hard road racer who exclaims the exalts of the turns and ignores the practical fun of useable, albeit extreme, highway (straightline) passing power in a street car, there is a drag racer out there who appreciates nothing more than feeling forward g's akin to a trainer jet with the balls to the wall and could not care less about the turn that follows the straight...
thankfully, i'm right in the middle. i have never, and won't ever, be on either end of the aforementioned extremes like you. do you know why? because i drive a street car on the street. i don't actively road race, i don't actively drag race. i am rather adept at both, and past that i have a very deep understanding of both markets from a business perspective. however...my main focus, and i'll say it again, is to have as much fun as possible performing the menial task of driving from point A to point B. thankfully not all of our roads are perfectly straight without obstacle, and not all of them are engrossed with boundless turns, switchbacks and chicanes.

You missed my point entirely. My point is that the owner of a street car gets more value spending money on driver training, brakes, suspension upgrades, ect...than on HP enhancing modifications. As far as a road course verses a drag course, a MS3 is much better suited to the former than the latter...

A test pipe is the second of three pieces of your stock exhaust, between the downpipe and cat-back. The stock one contains a catalayic converter, and happens to be very restrictive. Aftermarket test pipes ( aka race pipes, mid pipes) are catless, and help to free up your exhaust a little more, without making it much louder. Gains are expected to be about 10-12 hp, and it is one of the easiest mods for your car. No CEL's will appear, and it is a very safe mod. Hope this makes it clear to you.

Damn, I feel sorry for the OP...
Hell, my GF supports and sponsors my mods... (lol2)
I would suggest to bite the bullet once and for all and MAN UP!!! There's one thing that really ticks me and hit hearing about guys in a relationship where a woman tells him how to spend his money or has his balls in a vice. If all the bills and responsibilities are taken care of, then he should be able to splurge a little on himself.
