View Full Version : Just installed my Forge BPV! I have one question

It came with zero instructions what so ever but it looked pretty simple. My one question is where does the shim go?
I installed the blue spring and one shim and I put the shim under the spring then screwed down the cap. It seemed like the only logical place to put it. But I thought I should ask.
BTW it seems to be holding boost much better over that stock POS! Again I assume it's in right but you know what they say about assuming!

i tried different combinations and it seems that the blue + 2 had overall best performace ...
for me the blue + 2 spools, spikes, and holds the best

i'll probably add the 2nd shim when I get my injen CAI in a few weeks.

I can't wait for that ventpod so I can get a gauge, and verifiy this

Does anyone experience any flutter with the blue plus 2? I just have a Cobb AP and Im getting a little flutter with mine. Only when I let off the gas slowly or when I hit boost but dont shift, say for example 6th gear on the highway to pass someone. Anyone else experience this?

Flutter? Is that just a sound you hear when you are light on throttle after spooling a bit? that is just the shims in the BPV.

Downshift to 4th or 5th to pass. 6th gear is not a passing gear.

flutter is when the air is not being reciruclated back fully to the intake system or vented and the air goes back the other direction and hits the turbines fins of the turbo which make the flutter sound.
It happens to me sometimes on high boost. i think mainly when its colder and the spring gets a little stiffer.

That's not flutter. That is compressor surge. The air is not released by the BPV and backs up against the compressor wheel. This happens with the Forge running that spring/shim combo if you build boost at lower RPM and then let off throttle... easier to do in a high load situation like 5th or 6th gear. Like the other guy said, you probably shouldn't be doing this anyway. Just downshift first.
Flutter is usually caused by the wastegate door flapping open and shut trying to maintain a certain boost level. I've yet to hear any flutter on this car.

I sometimes get the Comp Surge as described with blue +2. I never got it with just the Blue. I might take one shim out.

i run my forge with the red spring and have no problems at all... and that was my second mod, so i have had it on for about a year...

i notice that "flutter" sound when I get into boost and lightly let off the gas. Letting off enough to not kick the BPV fully so it gives that fluttering sound. Is that not good then? It doesnt seem to effect power or anything like that, I just figured it was the BPV letting pressure by without needing to fully open.
