Yeah so I took the speed3 in for service because 4th gear was grinding
(08/30/08) pretty bad.. Just got back from vacation today from the Bahamas and Key west; was just informed transmission is being rebuilt and should be done by Tuesday of next week (09/09/08) - Paid for by Mazda :)

I got an 08 Honda Accord Sedan for a rental, it's pretty nice. Obviously not near as powerful as the speed3 but it's a smooth and refined ride. Anyways, just wanted to share the news!

always good to share news like yours! What failed or caused it. I am very interested. My tranny is fine but I would like to know the weak points of the car. thanks

I can bet it's due to the spongy mounts (rear mainly) which lead to mis-shifts which lead to damaged synchros

By the way, I did return the car to stock before I took it in. No questions asked, they just test drove the car noted the issue and went to work. I can't wait to get my baby back!

My advice is to not rush and pay close attention to your shifting (clutch all the way in before trying to snap it in to gear, etc) I know when I get mine back I'm going to be a little more cautious. I'm not saying it was entirely my fault but IMO we're going to need to pay closer attention to our shifting habits if we expect this transmission to hold up. This car makes a good bit of power / torque and due to this it doesn’t take too many errors for something to break.
