wow. i also participate in an older 911 bbs. most of those threads are "wow, look at my car!". there alot of maintenence questions, but not that many "how do i fix...." threads. not bad for some 25+ year old cars.

broken gas cap? missing oil? WTF? would you have still bought the car after reading so many threads?

i am just pissy because i zoomzoomed myself into my first speeding ticket...in a long while...

They don't make 'em like the used to is the first thing that comes to mind.

Plus, what percentage of MS3 owners is represented on this board? And within that group, how many of them have problems? The number may be smaller than you think.

And to answer your last question, absolutely I would buy it again. I look at things like "broken gas cap" threads and compare them to "gas pedal broke off" threads on Evo message boards. I think there are small issues with many modern cars across the board, but that doesn't mean you should condemn one type of car over another. You have to put everything in perspective my friend.

For the most part, it's the same thing with computers. I happen to work in the IT field and hear all the time from customers "I will never buy a Dell, HP, Toshia, Sony, etc. again!". Why? Because they had one bad experience and it ruined the brand for them.

On a side note, sorry to hear about your ticket. Mine is coming any day now, I can feel it.

Because no one goes around posting, "I just drove my car yesterday and nothing broke."

People are more vocal when they complain. That, and the innanets only represents a small portion of ownership.

If you've got an MS3, the first mod shouldn't be a CAI or a race pipe, it should be a damned Valentine.

And all of you know it. :)

You think MS3s have problems??

You should do a quick visit through a New Beetle forum, like I did when I owned/drove one. Much more exiting in that sense with people not understanding why the CEL came on for the Nth time, why the plastic in the interior is peeling, why the AC isn't working, why they need to change their coilpacks, why the window switches keep breaking, etc.

It's exactly that lack of problems on this forum that gave me a bit of peace of mind in buying a speed3 :)

I think people tend to voice their opinion more when they feel strongly about something. It looks to me as though people with Porsches get excited (in a good way) when they run, and people with ms3s get excited when they break (in a bad way, of course). Maybe it's just me, but it seems like Porsche owners expect them to break down, and ms3 owners expect them to run. No offense, but I don't really think it matters either way. Overall, I think we all like our cars, or we wouldn't own them.

Even with some "over-reported" problems, I'd much rather have the info. Still love the ms3...would buy another one in a second.

I agree with this. I also frequent Porsche forums and own one myself. As much as I love it, it has easily been one of the most unreliable machines I have ever purchased.

how about don't ever visit vortex, period.

but yeah, complaints are a function of internet forums. many people know why and when something is working right. they tend to know when something is working wrong but don't know why. they will ask on the board as it's the best way to get a focuses survey of answers/opinions. it's a great thing, really. also, as performance goes up, people push their vehicles and you end up having more things pop up. nothing is perfect, not even f-22 raptors. unfort our ms3's don't have round the clock service teams keeping them in shape, so we have to stay up on them the best we can!

I think it probably has to do with the fact that the car is styled and priced towards a younger crowd. With the MS3 it is probably a lot of people's first time tinkering with a car and have a lot more questions or problems to ask the forum about. The porsche forum, I would think, would be a lot older and be people who don't go to the forums for their problems. Just some thoughts.

This forum has a much younger demographic than a forum devoted to a 25+ year old Porsche is going to have. They're going to be harder on their cars and a lack of experience is going to lead to more issues. High expectations can lead to frustration when something isn't spot-on perfect.

Remember, forums are still by standard new. No one has ever had the oportunity to vent about vehicle quality issues like this. I like it said best, no one gets on here everyday and says, made it to work for the 262nd time this year with no issues in my speed3. Just imagine if there were forums for more generic cars like Malibu's and Ford Taurus'. WOW would they be fun to read....

They'd be nothing but mileage and "goddamn it's hard to replace this heater core" threads.

haha my wife had a new beetle, we sold that shit ASAP after the problems kept on coming. I agree with you totally that car fucking sucked and broke all the time. Thats the type of car you NEED a warranty for! Too bad i didnt have one damnit! Yeah and whats with the cheap ass plastic interior peeling? Even on the Jetta it does the same thing, how the fuck does plastic peel? Almost like they put a clear coat on it or painted over the plastic or something.

Yeah, I expected a very different car/dealership experience. I bought mine used, and also didn't have a warranty. I got a good deal on it, and expected a few issues, but Christ!

Credit where credit is due, my car never left me stranded or anything, and it was the car that I had during the, very sweet, college years, so I'll always have a lot of attachment because of the memories and everything. But it was frustrating that, even taking great care with my car, something was always wrong, broken, or close to failing, and a trip to the dealership(the only one in town) would sometimes end up with another problem, an expensive part, and the impression that I was getting ripped off. If it wasn't for such a bitter experience I'd seriously have considered a GTI.

agreed totally! the jetta and the beetle are expensive as shit to fix! I bought an extended warranty for the jetta so at least SOME things are covered.

But like you said, a trip to the dealership can be a BITCH! I too only have 1 dealership for VW nearby and they are always busy as fuck and need 3 days notice for appointments as they are always backlogged and they take forever with the repairs also. That really deterred me from buying a GTI as well as I did not want to have to go to VW for anything, not even a recal or warranty work as I know it would take forever and they would give me the runaround.

I saw a commercial the other day for aftermarket warranties that allow you to go to wherever you want as opposed to the fucking dealership, which would save me a lot of time and hassle! I think once my Mazda warranty is up I'll buy one of those so I can go to my own place that allows mods as opposed to the Mazda Dealership.

Had my ms3 for 16k miles and still not a single problem (other than a few recalls). I learned stick on this car and drive it pretty hard, and it's holding up really well!
