View Full Version : Motor Mount Suggestions
I don't think i can hold off any longer, i have to get some motor mounts. I figure i'll start with the front, and try and do the rear some weekend when i have a lot of extra time.... but which ones should i go with??
I'm not too worried about vibrations... the car is a daily driver, but i'm pretty tolerant of things like that.... i ran the car dumped at the midpipe for several months and it never really bothered me. My main question is, which one the motor mounts available today offer the best value??
Also, after the front, would you guys reccomend taking the time to swap the rear next, or go ahead with side mounts (or side inserts...)??

i had the awr front mount by itself for a while, and just recently put in the awr side inserts and i would highly recommend this combo.
there was some vibration from just the front mount, but now that i put in the side inserts the vibration is practically gone.

I'm using an SLS side and front mount. Installed both when the oem side mount ripped. Traction is improved and vibration can only be felt at idle or with the a/c on. Its really hardly noticeable and does not transfer to the seats or anything else.

AWR front mount and side inserts great combo I have it I love it. Only noticable vibration comes with the use of the A/C

You might not mind, but FWIW I hated my AWR 70 rear mount. I thought my dash was going to fall off into my lap at idle with the A/C on. As much time as I spend in that particular situation, it was not acceptable. I swapped it out for a filled stock rear mount and I think it was the perfect compromise. Greatly reduced engine slop and almost unnoticeable vibration.
I have the AWR 70 in the front and really like it, and this weekend while I was swapping trannies I put in the inserts for the driver's side. It stepped the vibration up just a hair, but it's still not an issue. I definitely noticed an immediate improvement in the shifting. Even with front and rear mount upgrades, I always felt like the engine was moving a bit when I let the clutch out on upshifting, particularly with the A/C on. The engagement is much better now and I don't notice that same odd feeling.
Anyway, hope that helps.

Rear helps with stiffening up shifting and passenger side helps with wheelhop bigtime. It wasn't long after that my front started taking all the abuse and tore.

I have AWR 70 Duro Front and side inserts. Wheel hop is all gone, vibration is present but nothing that can't be tolerated. I'm used to driving a Suzuki Samurai, so this feels like a Caddy! But unless the rear is jacked, Ive read that the Front and sides are plenty for a DD. BTW my front was so torn it wasn't even connected anymore. Even though you said you can tolerate things. I wouldn't go any stiffer then 70 Duro on a DD. I have noticed several things unscrewing themselves. Random bolts underhood. I actually had to go through and start tightening every bolt I could see just so I wouldn't loose any more. I can't even imagine with something stiffer.

You should look into the Medieval MMs.....they are a thing of beauty....I have my front installed it is so sweet. I previously had the AWR in there and b4 that I had the stocker......with the Medieval MM you get the strength of the AWRs and the cabin vibrations of the stock MM. I will be installing the rear motor mount very soon and I am awaiting the arrival of my side motor mount I ordered. I can't wait to get these in. Like I have posted on other threads.......Medieval>AWR>SheepUnit>SLS>Stock
Here is a link to a review I did on the Medieval Front Motor Mount compared to the AWR:
Well I went to copy the link and it seems as if it was deleted.....no worries I save a copy of all the info....If you wanna see the comparison just PM me and I will send it to you. Its an awesome product.....definitely worth looking into and purchasing.

AWR all the way.... if your not worried about vibration too much... it will decrease with time... my next choice would be SheepUnits MM but pretty pricey but very good quality IMO... last would be SLS there not too good at all... but better than stock for sure

I ran the SU rear mount for about 2,000 miles. I thought my fillings were going to fall out. It vibrated as bad as a race car with solid mtr mounts and fiberglass vibrating against the tube frame if you have ever had the pleasure of driving a race car. This isn't what I want in stop and go traffic or commuting around town. I wouldn't pay 30 cents for the SU rear mount.
My solution? Injected polyurethane into the gaps in the OEM mount and let it dry a good 3 weeks on the hot sun. Replaced the SU with my new moded oem and it is a huge difference.
BTW, the SU is for sale for $50 plus shipping so long as your fillings can take it.

i had considered trying to buy some medieval mounts before i left for the summer, but then i know a bunch of shit went down with him processing orders and people getting their parts.... has that all been cleared up now??
I think my front is torn pretty bad, i'm not sure about my rear though. I'm hoping that front and side inserts will make this work just because i don't want to have to go through a rediculous install for the rear.

Yeh they have gotten their issues fixed it seems and there are quite a few commenting their customer service has gotten a million times better since they changed staffing up a bit.
With me everytime I order a part Medieval, will PM me and send me a tracking number and check on it and see if I have received it and make sure its in proper order and nothing is damaged.

since i noticed that my side mount is ripped, will the inserts work or do i need a whole new mount?

The inserts will be nothing more than a bandaid repair. The stock motor mounts are designed to give cabin comfort (no vibrations) and do not hold up to a stock application. Once they are torn their intergery is gone and inserts are nothing more than a bandaid over a large wound. Will they work, yes. Are they the answer, no.
