View Full Version : I'm seeing 19psi which seems a bit high

I notice, with the peak hold function on my Prosport boost gauge, that I peak at about 19psi. Only mods to the motor I have is a Cobb SRI and Forge BPV (two shims and blue spring). I've read that normal should be around 15psi. Any thoughts as to why I'm reading 19, other than maybe my boost gauge is F'd up? It reads 21-22 in Hg vacuum during idle, which seems normal. I run 93 octane around here.

I thought its supposed to hold 15psi and spike around 18.5psi so if your reading 19psi that doesnt sound bad for an upgraded BPV.

According to a DashHawk log on my totally stock car with a suspected boost leak, I spiked at 19.14 psig. After that, I couldn't seem to even hold 15 psig. This, however, is the highest I've seen it spike. Upper 17.xx to lower 18.xx is the more typical spike I see.

pretty hardcore bro, hows the mpg compare on that with the standback? I wouldnt mine MBC n all that just need the mpg for a daily driver and would prefer not to lose that. I only floor it to get onto the freeway or to hear my Greddy bov hehe, otherwise I keep it low key and watch the vac guage and a/f guage to get the best mpg I can

I usually stay out of boost because I only drive 6 miles each way to work and get around 22mpg but when I get into it I see spikes to 17-18psi and hold 15psi and it bleeds off to 14psi with a stock bpv.
Is it normal when holding boost for it to go down or is that a symptom of a leaky stock bpv?

best guess would be the stock one is not holding properly. I swapped mine and it stays put and does not dwindle down. The only time it fluctuates if from spikes here and there. Its a quick mod that bpv, get r done bro!

In 5th and 6th at WOT, I usually spike to 19-20 and then it settles at 15-16 right away. I have the Cobb SRI and Forge BPV blue + 2 also.

Every thread I read gets me closer and closer to buying the forge, which will probably be my next purchase after the wheels I'm trying to save for now.

From what I've read the hks has clearance issues with the cobb sri, thats why I didnt get that one. Turbosmart looks real nice but not $320 nice. I'm wondering what cobb is going to come out with, even though anything with their name on it commands a huge price.

Yeah I've only got the SRI and spike to 19psi sometimes. Seems to be just in 5th and 6th though. Some people say the highest they've seen in 2nd is 10psi. I've seen 14psi several times.
I'm glad I'm reading this cause it shows the dh is pretty damn accurate with regards to boost.

Maybe I should start a separate thread. But what gauges are you guys using and where are you mounting them at.

Right now mine is just sitting on top of the steering column (like most here). But I do plan to mount it there permanently. I have an old mount from a sirius unit that I'll use.
I found a site that has various types of mounts:

It's light so velcro will hold it just fine.

Prices brand new are around $300, but you can get it for less. Just google msd dashhawk sale. The official site is http://www.dashhawk.com/.

I have a strip of one of those sticky mats for cell phones on the steering column (likes others) slightly right of center -- blocks about 20 MPH and below on the speedo and the mileage displays. The mat holds on for the most part... and makes it easy to take in and out. I have the cord looped around the steering column and is barely noticeable. I may eventually find a more 'permanent' mounting solution... but it works great for now.

SRI, reicirculate bov as bpv, catless downpipe/midpipe, and I am spiking as high as 22psi. I normally hold on the high side of 16, somtimes 17. The problem is 5th and 6th gear when I creep over 18 and get cut. Working on that....
