ok so i have a quick question sorry im kind of a noob. so we all know the ms3's run rich.. i would like some form of tuning but cant afford to go out and buy a ap for 700 buck im 17 and make about 17 grand a year.. so i was thinkin about it would it be safe to go out and buy a boost controller and run a little more boost maybe 17 or 18 lbs without a tune because we run so rich. would i steal have a safe a/f ratio or no? to much and blow shiat up?

you'd probably be alright in terms of a/f...but it's nice to have something to monitor that...do you have a dashhawk or a wideband gauge?
with 18 lbs, you're going to get boost cut from the ecu...you can probably do 17 without any bcd or map clamp, but if you spike higher than 17 and hold it for a couple of seconds, you'll get boost cut.
i hope that helps

A map clamp (I have heard) will make the dashhawk ready inaccurate boost. I would say not to mess with the boost unless you have already opened up the exhaust system.
Now if only we had an easy, cheap, bolt-on to lean the car out just a little bit ALL THE TIME, not just at wot and full boost.
Oxymoron

The truth of the matter is that you shouldnt play around with the boost levels until you have the proper tools to see how your particular engine is responding to the changes you are making. And from the sounds of it you cant afford those so Id recommend going a different route for performance upgrades than a MBC. If you blow up your engine your warranty will be void and at $17K/yr I imagine it would be very hard to get it replaced.
Just my $.02

Oxy is right. What mods do you already have? A little bit of breathing may leaner her out just a touch. Try a SRI and maybe a new turbo inlet pipe. Do yourself a favor and get the cs mm inserts on the cheap!

i have a cobb sri and planning on getting the trz mm and thinkin of the new inlet pipe thanks for the input guys i was seriously considering it but u steered me in the right direction thanks
My experience has been that running 18 psi leans the car up about 1 full point at wot near redline ... still plenty safe (going from high 9's to high 10's afr)
