not getting much viewage in the other section so I am cross posting
hoping to get some informed opinions over 'ere

I am looking into this for my T3 turbine housing and cast iron hiboost mani.

Check with your coater to see what kind of temps it can withstand. I've powdercoated parts like differentials, but a turbo creates much more heat.

I'd coat it with something like a ceramic-based coating than CAN handle the heat and even improve turbine efficiency. I've ceramic coated a turbo before and it turned out great; nice bling bling compressor housing and a flat black exhaust housing.

Anyone care to share their experiences? Warranty work performed, etc...

id like to get my turbine housing coated and my msp mani. Im a little wary on getting the msp mani coated tho because of the excess heat getting trapped in could make the mani crack faster

i think this is a common mis-conception
different coatings have different effects
the Swaintech is a true ceramic coating for those who want their coating for its performance capabilities.
once u want colors or shiny, u r compromising the thermal purpose for show.
Coatings can be specifc to insulate, expel heat, etc...
i am still groking this...

what coating would you get?

I wouldn't mind looking into this stuff

I coated everything. cermachrome on shields and comp housing, 2000 black on the cast iron pieces, turbine housing. do it if you have the money.

what do you think the coating will do to the manifold ? do you think it will make it crack faster?

i coated both the inside and outside. it should not if you do this b/c it puts a thermal barrier which keeps the heat in the exhaust stream. therefore, less heat is absorbed through the cast iron and reduces the thermal energy loss which is kept in the exhaust stream to spin the turbine wheel and reduces lag.

a lot of the cracking can be attributed to improperly torqued fasteners, out of sequence tightening, bad engine mounts, and just being stupid like dumping water on a hot exhaust manifold when you are cleaning your engine bay.

how much did it cost you to have the mani, housing, and s pipe coated

if you have a local company to do it, it should cost between $250 to 300.

how much was the cermachrome for the shield and the turbo inlet if that whats call.

I couldn't really tell you b/c I got it as a package deal. If you seriously want to use the place I did, I can ask for you.

^^^That would be nice! Just do it when ever you got a chance b/c im not in a big rush on that, but im planning on doing it. Another question for you. Do you think that porting out the stock mani could make it want to crack easier?

anytime you port anything it has a higher risk of cracking but If you have your MM's upgraded and have an exhaust with a flex pipe I would say the risk of the mani cracking is much lower.

I have also heard that there are some decent gains to be had with porting the stock mani...I know MPNick used to do it for people
