Rear Mazda Badge

So I have been contemplating painting my mazda badges black, or just buying a blackout set, but I had a question. To my understanding there is no easy way to remove the rear badge without using a fishing line and breaking the legs off of the badge. If that is the case, how would I install a new set with the remainders of the leg posts stuck in the holes?

idk where your understanding came from, but i didn't rip the legs off of mine when i removed it.
honestly, if the car has been sitting outside on a hot day, you don't even need fishing line, you can peel the emblem off with your hands.
the little pegs are so short, i don't foresee how you can create enough leverage to actually break them off. good luck

I guess I just waited too long in the day to get it done. It kept breaking my fishing line, so i assumed there was more to it than just some automative glue. Oh well, hopefully it gets hotter than hell today, and I can give it another shot.
On a brighter note the front came out great.

i'm about to paint all my emblems also. what do i have to do so the paint will stick better?

i just used a card i had in my wallet (i think it was a AAA card) and it came off mega easy. as far as the paint goes, i went to Lowe's and got some Valspar black gloss spray paint. it's holding up real well.

I used a high temp enamel that sticks particularly well to plastics (got it at pep boys) then threw on 2 coats of clear for protection.
I bought some emblem adhesive also but it is this shitty clear glue.
Anyone know where to get that black sticky stuff they put on the OEM badges?

yours looks pretty nice! I still need to get mine done, it's taking me forever to get around to doing this. Looks great now to see it on silver which is what I have.

painting is the easy part. prep is the pain in the ass. take off the badges...sand the hell out of them. i used 120 or something to get them nice and rough.

some people will tell you to bleach them to take off the 'chrome' but i didn't, and i don't think it's necessary.

after they're sanded, you may start painting. i used a satin black rustoleum. i recoated about 3-4 times. and then topped it off with about 3-4 more coats of satin clear.

adhesive gaskets...they are wonderful. at least, that's what the oem adhesive appears to be.

You won't break the legs...all you gotta do is warm it up with a hair dryer and use fishing line to seperate the emblem from the car...then pull.

Everything comes off in one peice

Painting is easy...just get a brite pad and rough up the surface so its not shiney any more...then get outdoor black paint and spray paint a few layers on. Then clear coat it.

I did mine like that and they have been perfect for the past 6 months

I was going to try the black gasket adhesive, but I was weary about applying it directly to the paint.
