Fiberglass...cheap and easy to crack. Not poly urethane like your factory bumper that flexes. Also, especially on a black car, very easy to see waves from crappy production.

CorkSport
08-22-2008, 06:53 PM
The bumper and grille is 1 piece. It utilizes the factory air ducting mount points in the grille and the under tray points. It retains the factory crash bar.

The bumper is made from fiberglass.

this will make me sound silly, but the 'g' and the 'b' are right next to each other. i'm pretty sure i know that body kits are made of fg, not any kind of fiber board that ikea would use.

but, i toss enough shit around here that i definitely deserve to be chastised when i fuck up. thanks!

Shipping depends on where you live. East coast would be about $200. The bumper is too big for UPS ground. We can always send it greyhound for $90 or so. Bad part is you have to pick it up from the local station.

We do not have the facilities to paint parts, sorry.

As for a rear skirt I am not sure what the plan is.

I read late and quickly and late as usual. Does this support the top mounted intercooler airflow. And does this puppy actually create more down force above 130mph. seriously. Very attractive if it improves aero. Derrick, you have my address. Give me decent numbers and you have a sale.

am i the only one who doesn't like it??
I think you might be. lawl. I like it, reminds of the Buddy Club II kit for other cars, minus foglight housings. I just can't imagine doing anything to the front since I already have clearance issues with the OEM front bumper on stock suspension.

it looks ok, but im with you, not as nice as the autoexe bumper IMO. I think this would not look nearly as nice without the FMIC sticking out of it either.

wisniaPl
08-25-2008, 12:54 PM

so i dont want it

CorkSport

We are working on different meshes/screens for the bumpers. A finaly material has not been selected yet.

The bumper does not have a mounting point for the stock foglights.

am i the only one who doesn't like it?? its ok, but doesn't seem like it flows very well... i'll wait for more pictures before i make my final decision

i think it's whatever.
it's fiberglass.
it doesn't flow, you're right. the things on the side of the bumper just look odd to me.
you lose your fogs (i don't even use my fogs, but wouldn't necessarily give them up. i don't think those extra gaps are going to make me go faster...
so all in all...i won't be the consumer purchasing this, but it appears there will be a lot of people waiting for it to come out.

more pictures would be great and hopefully do the bumper more justice for me.

How much lower will this be than stock? With my suspension I am struggling with my driveway entrance already. Is there a warranty for cracking? What is the weight comparison. Seriously, 200 to ship to me in New York. i still like though. And the fella's are right on a rear end with a real diffuser would mean a road trip to visit you folks to save on shipping. ha kinda kidding. Thanks D

Why is that? Do Corvettes have that problem?

phillyb
08-25-2008, 06:16 PM
Fiberglass is a relatively strong material under normal circumstances. It is made from plastic resin and synthetic fiber. You can guard your fiberglass body kit against cracks and tears by minimizing its direct exposure to undue stress. The strength of this material depends on the methods employed by the manufacturers to mold it.

Ordinarily, fiberglass is very good material for a body kit. But unlike metal, it can easily be damaged, and it also fatigues over time, leading to cracks. Professional body work experts should be able do repairs, but there are many instructional kits available as well. However, if you’re doing it yourself, be careful. Fiberglass can cause some serious eye and skin irritation. And unlike metal, it can particulate, or separate into its component fibers, which can very quickly become very difficult to control, let alone repair.

If you live in an area that has snow or rough roads, you may choose to select urethane because of its endurance. If you live in an area where the roads are smooth and the weather is decent, then fiberglass can be used. Just as metal bodywork rusts, fiberglass cracks under such adverse weather conditions.

Because fiberglass can be molded, there are several outlandish designs out you’ll find on the market. A normal wing and body kit combo may cause around $350 to $800, or more. Customs designs are also available, at a much more exhorbitant price, since custom designs are by definition done one at a time, with a minimum of automation and a maximum of human handiwork.

yeah, i was thinking the same thing.

there are a lot of performance cars that use fiberglass bumpers. lotus and covette to name 2.

i think people just assume it's going to crack because when they had their sick ass eagle talon with that dope body kit spray painted, it cracked. (rockon)

no offense.

Keep us posted with updates and details, Corksport. we will need to find an alternative way to mount foglights and a mesh or grille that still looks decent with my top mount ic. With the Front mount the car looks quite aggressive. Controlo and or phillyb, how about weight comparison between the polyuthing and fglass or fb

this threads says fiberglass is normally lighter than urethane - http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t236750.html
fg seems to be lighter judging by my quick google search. urethane vs fiberglass. have fun.

I am depressed now. but thank you evil, but informative philly. We do have fresh stone laid down on roads I happen upon and I cringe if I can not reroute. There is no way I could drive with this piece and not stress out. I guess I will have to call Derrick and say no. damnit

phillyb
08-26-2008, 05:53 PM
yeah. it's unfortunate. i'm not one to go ape shit about body kits period, so i don't care if it's made of fucking wood or cardboard for that matter.
it seems that everything being released for our car is fg. it'd just be nice to have the OPTION for some urethane parts.
i'm sure they cost more to manufacture, they certainly cost the consumer more to purchase, but i think in the long run, the consumer would be saving money.

the manufacturer has to make it make business sense. i doubt that corksport or anyone else wants to make urethane parts for our car since the demand wouldn't be too high. someone chime in on this...and add your 2 cents

CorkSport
08-28-2008, 08:52 PM
We looked at doing a part in urethane in the past. The 15k-20k estimate for the tooling was the big negative on it.

phillyb
08-29-2008, 01:41 AM
that's what i would figure. the higher price of the part itself obviously meant it cost more to the manufacturers...thanks derrick for clearing that up.

so when is the first one of these going to be available?

ericrapp
08-29-2008, 03:45 PM

The bumper shown in the picture on the first page is still getting test screens so I can't give an exact weight yet.

We should have the first bumpers ready to go in october. I won't have a more precise date until the middle of sept.
