View Full Version : WGA Question... Installed a new Forge WGA this Weekend

So as the title says I was getting the dreaded P0171 code and after looking around I determined the stock WGA had met its match. So no big deal I buy a forge wga and install it on Saturday. Damn was that E clip a pain in the a$$. In any event, after the install I am a little surprised to see that my boost is low and the BPV is not activating (at least I can not hear it). I recently installed my boost gauge, but before the new WGA I was getting about 5.5 to 6 psi under WOT. Now I can not seem to get above 4.5.
So did I install the Forge WGA incorrectly? I basically adjusted the rod so it snuggly fit over the knob on the turbo, but I did not tug and "pre-load" the spring in the WGA. I simply had no way to really pull on it.
The website says to adjust the rod to increase or decrease boost, but I am unsure as to what to do and how to do it.
Can anyone help me out? I researched on this site, but did not find the answer.

Yes you can, but my question is why the low boost and why/how to adjust?

sounds like you dont have enough preload. you will need some. if you have it too loose the door stays open just a hair and it will be slow to boost and will feel sluggish.
take the e clip off. take the rod off the arm. loosen the jam nut like 4 turns and tighten the rod till it meets the nut, this will make it shorter and add some preload. you can leave the E clip off untill you get it adjusted properly as long as the rod is fully inserted onto the wg door arm.
you dont need much preload, just enough so that you have to pull on the rod to stretch it over the door being fully closed. make sure you hold the door closed when adjusting the rod length or else it will not be enough to keep it shut and will leak.

I was having the opposite issue I was boosting 10-10.5 psi on the my new gt28RS (Dangerous!!!) And we couldnt figure out what to do after trying everything. What I did was open it up and took swapped out the spring for the same color spring. But when installing the blue spring cap inside I didn't tighten it down all the way So the spring wasn;t as compressed, It work perfectly.
You on the other hand could do the opposite and tighten it down and see if that helps, and it only takes 5 minutes to do.

5 mins and then 5 hours to put the e clip back on!!! (uhm)(uhm)

Well on the way home from work today I closely watched the boost gauge and the waste gate must be leaking because on the highway at 80 MPH it was still pulling vaccuum even as I would get on the gas. I assume this is not normal.
Next I need to fix the annoying shifter rattle.

i thought i jusk ask, i also have a gt28rs that boost 10psi with the WG that it came with. Is the only way to lower the boost by getting another WG or will a greddy profec ll specB or what ever is call be able to take care of this? Sorry don't mean to break into your thread.

you can only go as low as your lowest wg setting. so if ur wg base pressure is 10 then thats the lowest u can go. so u will need a diff wg.

What are your supporting mods. I've been told That I could run the 10 psi will supporting mods and Fuel management , but needed to drop the boost since I was stock

well right now im keeping the car out of boost but when i was boosting it my mods were: gt28rs,vibrant exhaust, intake,SplitSecond a/f,walbro fuel pump, perrin FMI with HKS bov. And now i don't have the fmi,and the splits second, b/c im replacing them with another items. And by the way i made 240whp with that setup.

I just got my MAM FMIC set-up delivered I have to mount that this week. And my 3" apexR1 catless J-mid pipe will be bolted to my stock Cat back. I hope to do the Split second for chistmas, unless I find a cheap priced used one. I might go ahead and get a 626 Mani for the hell of it. Then I may turn up to boost 8 or 9....Maybe.
Check my other thread about how I got the boost down, Which spring do you have in the Forge WGA?

You can adjust the rod now that you have it attached. Its easier if you do it from under the car. When I installed mine I didn't tighten it enough and had to go back to get it to hold 10psi.

well still have the wg that came with the gt28rs but i don't know if that one is adjustable, but i probaby get a dfferent wg so i can drop my boost for regular driving and upp it on the track. But if i get a different wg to how many psi can i adjust it so i can do 7psi for driving and 13for racing with my greddy EBC?

Your boost controller will force the wg to hold 13. You would have to set it up to hold 7 without the EBC.
