I don't think there is much out there as far as aftermarket hoods are concerned. There are a few CF hoods but that's about it as far as I know.

Yeah man sucks there aren't too many brand out there with these for our cars. I TOTALLY prefer one with a nice duct or scoop on it.
On EBAY I have seen ones from VIS that are for the mazdaspeed3 and are only OEM shaping tho, but have seen them on there for about $450-500 I believe. Definately pricey but VIS hoods are pretty sturdy and good quality.

naw shipping is like 150-200 or so which BLOWS! It sucks hood are large and expensive to ship. I live in Los Angeles so I can go to the seller and pick it up in person. Just not sure if I wanted to spend $450-500 for an oem shaped hood

funny thing about that..i bought a hood from a known shop so insurance was included with shipping price. well DHL lost it for 2 weeks..another story lol but because it was insured DHL was going to refund me or get another hood, but mine was found eventually.

damn, yeah i was going to say, if that was shipped than im down. I wish i could just go pick one up. its hard to find one and being on the east im not even going to try to find a place close to me that stocks one. that's why we need a group buy, i got the VIS one on the integra for $300shipped, no bs. I did get the first order special but the rest was $400/$450 i forget, shipped. still a good deal i think.
yeah, i can honestly say that $500 can go somewhere else, i doubt the stock hood really weighs that much more over the cf but the ricer in me is a cf whore. i think it can just make a car stand out.

i disagree. the stock hood is heavy for a reason. eliminating some of that weight will cause more wheel hop and less traction during acceleration.
fwd car - weight up front to keep the wheels on the ground.
mazda engineered it this way by design, which is why i'd rather have that weight savings up top on the roof to lower the center of gravity and all that.
Maybe if the opening of the hood scoop was wider then it might look decent..
i agree. im also not a fan of the tapered look of the scoop. designing a nice scooped hood for this car is tough because the car has an overall rounded look but lots of angular accents on it. a big square scoop like the scoobys have would look out of place too. i do think that a cowl induction style hood would look pretty badass tho.

mazda engineered it this way by design, which is why i'd rather have that weight savings up top on the roof to lower the center of gravity and all that.I respect your opinion on this. If i lightened the car i would remove weight from the front on this car in particular The weight bias is a little lopsided for a performance road car. And the stock suspension which favors comfort over stability is a very nice compromise for folks. Also my car is not a drag car. weight is always the enemy in the attempt to move the car along quicker, regardless. with less weight in the front, that will affect the car in many ways for sure. But that stuff I can tune around. Suspension rates and weighting and brake bias can be tuned. The only way to overcome weight is more ponies. and I hate to say it, but our cars are porky already. Lets lighten up and balance the chassis!.... 1200 for a hood wowee. So any one got any weight savings on hoods? thanks for input B

dude to pay 1200 for that one hood with the baby dick sized scoop, I would prefer to buy a scoop and mold it to the hood and have ti repainted for a lot less than that.
NOT TO SOUND RICER... but has anyone should about those sti-style stick on hood scoops? Just having it painted and stick to the hood and cut a hole in the hood for the ait to flow through to the TMIC? I mean, looking at the sti hood stoop it isn't molded to the hood there are indentations and rivets around the scoop and it is removable, so one that sticks on to the hood would probably look just the same so no one can say the sti one is any better than one that sticks on with double sided tape
example:
carbon fiber sti hood scoop installed:
http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa186/baysonr/zoomzoom4u/subaru/97-01%20sti%20lip/hood%20scoop/DSC04939.jpg
stick on double sided tape hood scoop:
http://i4.ebayimg.com/03/i/001/04/17/9f21_1.JPG
I think they both look the same, you could get the stick on scoop, paint it to match the car and even cut the hole in the hood over the TMIC like the sti/wrx does
Any oppinions on that????

Thats the one that SU is selling right? I think it would look better on a black car. Still the MS3 should have come stock with a hood scoop stock

bump for those who haven't seen these pics. I think it would look good with it all painted except the scoop...or just paint the sides of it behind the headlight to follow the lines of the car.

That is a great looking hood, but I would paint mine to match my MGM. More stealth look.

pics of that red car have some giggles in my coming out. First he put 2.3 badges on the side... while many of us are removing badges/shaving, this person is adding them. Also he painted crazy red lines through the front mustache. Lastly, looks like he's got some rice in him, drilling holes just above the fog lights to add those wannabe audi style leds that stick out, some thing thats the next fashion statement for cars now is to add the audi type leds.
Otherwise, the hood is very nice. Sucks we have to pay more for that the srt-4 comes with stock... a vented/scooped hood. Hey, at least we get power windows tho.

actually, the audi leds above the fogs look right at home on the 3. I was thinking about doing them on mine, I think it looks sick on the 3 body style.
