Well 1 year 2months and 19200 miles later I have my first issue with the MS3. The AC stopped working. But the guys at the dealer told me they couldnt understand how the failure happend. My Clutch plate is missing for the AC. It's just gone. This has me a little worried about quality/fit/finish issues. Anyone else have any issues with the ac?
I call bs and blame them. I did not use my ac last week and the last friday (not the one that just past) I had my oil changed at the dealer. I don't know what to think but I'm waiting for the part to come in.

Yeah, cause one incident of this happening makes all of our MS3's rolling garbage cans!

So you have 1 issue (albeit a strange one - haven't heard of anyone missing their AC clutch plate) and you're worried about fit/finish? Things like this happen sometimes (regardless of make/model). If they didn't, no one would need a warranty. 37k miles, no AC issues here.

Coming from a Subaru WRX owner, that ain't saying much. I'd rather have my AC go out than the tranny.

Point in fact I just had my MS3 at the dealership because I thought the air conditioning sucked. They tested it and said it was fine. I think I'm used to my truck's air conditioner which could freeze water if I left it on long enough.
Well, longs story short, they said it was working fine, but because it was a smaller compressor, it probably wouldn't do as good of a job cooling the cab as my truck does.
I didn't really like their answer but I guess it is, what it is....

I guess they could say the same thing about our turbos. (yes)

My AC blows pretty cold I think, my situation is that anytime I put the vents on floor only it turns the ac on regardless if the ac button is pushed or not.

I still haven't gotten used to the fact the rpms drop so quickly between shifts when my ac is on. I have to roll the clutch into it while still applying gas. That and the ugly clunk when it first activates.

I think the AC blows colder in the MS3 than in my Infiniti G35 and my old Camry

My ac was recently fixed, The bolt that holds the clutch plate unthreaded and went missing. I probably would have lost the plate as well if I had driven some more KMs. I would not worry about the quality of the car due to this one small issue.

Where do you look to check on the clutch plate? I've been hearing some loss metal clanging from what sounds like underneath the car, towards the rear. I've checked the rear sway bar end links periodically and it's not that.

If your ac still works than it is not causing the noise.

Mine works fine. The only complaint I have is that the fan is noisier than my GXP and the number of vents comparatively is limiting.

2008 MS3 with 23,000 miles: ac clutch frozen and Mazda has the compressors on back order until third week of September. Sure, it's under warranty, but the month to get repaired really sucks with daily highs over 105°F this week in Northern California.

dude, my ac stopped workin too. I brought it back to the dealer 4 motnhs ago. some guys there told me it's because i installed a boost gauge and that could have messed up the electronics. I never went back there. I went to another dealer and the guy told me that it couldnt be the boost gauge. so he told me to bring it in but i havent gotten any time since then. He said that if it's the gauge then i just have to pay for parts and labor, but if proven it's not they'll be happy to repair it. but he said it's highly unlikely to be the gauge. Maybe we have the same problem. Ive been drivin this car all summer long without ac, it sucked but still fun. Got my windows open, but it's hot.

At 35k i had to have my ac compressor replaced along with my belt tensioner and of course the belt. The dealership covered under warranty. I just don't think that the ac unit can't handle the power from the motor.

I feel you on that one. I never use the AC until yesterday when my dad was with me in my car. He said "crank it up boy!" and i sadly said...."it's at max capacity" :-( This is one of the weakest AC ive seen.

My A/C is wonderful. i use it probably 98% of the time i drive in the spring and the summer, and usually on the coldest setting, 60* up to 64*. i've got about 12k on mine. it's better than my Si a/c, and compareable to my old '97 civic a/c, but not nearly as cold at the coldest. my civic had unreasonably cold a/c.

I drive with the windows down 90% of the time and I live in HELL (Central Florida) When I do use it I set it on (72-76) Would suck if it went out though. I don't use it much mainly because I like to get all the power out of the motor. I'm a true hard core enthusiast...

at a certain higher percentage throttle angle, unsure of exactly the number, but the compressor disengages and the a/c no longer presents a viable load. so if you are breathing on the throttle in any real manner, you are fine.
if you mean you like to get all the power out of the motor on part throttle cruising, then that is definately "hardcore" lol

I was sitting parked in a Publix lot waiting to meet a friend in a 100 degree heat index with my A/c on max. All of a sudden it just stopped blowing cool air and the cabin started to swelter. I was in shock with only 19,000k miles. There was nothing I could do to bring it back online. I got out after shutting off the engine, waited for a minute and started it up again. Thankfully, the A/C started working again and I have not had another episode since. The A/C is terrible in my car unless I am at sustained highway speeds. My girl's Corolla is much colder. I found out that when I use a windsheild sunshade, the A/c will be cooler quicker.

Wow, I live in North Florida and brudda, it gets HOT AND MUGGY!. My A/C will run me outa the car after only twenty minutes or so on the worst days. Usually I'm turning it up pretty durned quick.
