View Full Version : Installed my RPMC Turbo Inlet Today

Install was very easy, however took me some extra time to adjust clamps/hoses and make sure all the fitments were correct. Man is it tight in there, could barely get my hands in there. Driving impressions: Immediately I felt and could hear a difference. The turbo DEFINATELY spools faster. And the "sucking" or "jet" noise from the intake is alot louder, and comes faster. Overall it was fairly inexpensive, easy install, and it even comes with an instructional DVD for the mechanically handicapped. Doesn't require any crazy tools either, can be done in an hour, and I took my time.

I look forward to doing this mod sometime next year. Hopefully there will be more write ups and info on how this product is doing

I wonder how much it affects boost? Do you have any info?

If this is the same black abs plastic looking one from the other forum, it looks almost identical to stock. I think a tech would need to have been tipped off, and even then prob couldn't tell.
I'm looking into this to. Any other driving impressions?

Dang... I want one. I want to complete my intake system

ehh no other real driving impressions. I cant really notice a crazy power increase. But the turbo winds up faster making the intake louder, sounds like a damn Joint Strike Fighter.

if the power increase is negiligble, whats the point?

He said the turbo spools faster... but is that all. Our turbo already spools very quickly, especially if you aren't picking it off way too low like at 1,500 rpm. Jet sounds are normally good.... except I am honestly starting to tire of my cobb sri vacuum cleaner sound, but that's another topic for another day. It just gets annoying on the hour long morning commute in heavy traffic

off topic: sell me your cobb, that will take care of your problem!
on topic: thanks for testing this. Sounds like it can be swapped back in and out if the car must go in for warranty work.

yeah, it can be swapped out easily. but if you get the black one, you dont even notice it is there. and i have heard it is probably only 3-5hp. but once you take the stock one out, you will realize it is a good buy. the stock one is garbage. plus, from everything i hear, it spools about 500 rpm quicker than stock. sounds like a good, cheap mod in my book.

Just installed mine today...sweet peice.
Once you remove the stock peice you will see that there are gains to be had. The stock peice has too many flat spots and it is not smooth at all.
mrjoshyman

so for $235, 3-5hp doesn't really seem all that great. But having power 500 rpm sooner definitely seems great -- what are you guys spooling at? closer to 2500?

bump...idk if there are other inlet threads...but i'm considering this mod after looking at the inlet pipe last night. i had the battery box out and the ic off so i could easily see the inlet pipe.
with the installation of my mbc, i WOULD LOVE to get the turbo to spool faster. does anyone else have this inlet?

horsepower is horsepower. just like weight reduction is weight reduction. maybe insignificant by itself but when you start adding everything together, it makes a big difference.

hmm....has anyone else installed an inlet pipe recently? nemore comments?

I did a month ago or so...it's a good piece. Definitely looks like it flows better than the stock one.

What is the ceramic coating? I know I want it to be powder coated and know what that is

So all yall have to say about it is it spools faster, makes intake louder and it looks like it flows better than the stock inlet pipe? I wonder if I should get this or a bpv? What do yall think that have the rpmc turbo inlet pipe

For yall that have purchased this product what is the deal with powder coating and ceramic coating. Powder coating goes on the outside and Ceramic coating goes on the inside???
AutoEuphoria
10-10-2008, 03:52 PM
Ceramic has more heat resistance than just powder coating. Powder coating will add color and a bit of durability.
As far as getting this or a BPV...I'd go with this. The stock BPV does have a tendancy to leak, but I think there is more to be gained from replacing the stock turbo inlet tube. I'd get a BPV next, though...or just save up and get them both at the same time.

is this one of those warranty voiding parts? Sucks the intake system doesn't already come with this part. If you purchase the cold air intake system I would think they would include all the piping all the way to the throttle body. So you end up paying $200+ for your intake and another $200+ for this part just to complete your intake system, sucks :(

+1 - I'm considering switching to a CAI for just that reason.

I'd go with a BPV since it's been proven that some stockers leak.

Just be careful when you start adding "added horsepower" from various bolt-ons together :) That's the classic calling card of ricer behavior. If a header supposedly adds 15HP and a turbo inlet adds 3-5 when both are on the car at the same time it does not equate to 5+15=20......

Just installed mine today, haven't gotten to drive it yet because I don't got my kid's car seat in my car. Started it up and no cel so that's always good. Took me like an hour and a half to do it without instructions. They sent me a skinny hose for it to replace the other one and that was a pita to connect them to one another. Looks good though, I'll be taking it out tonight. Now I gotta order me a bpv and motor mounts

definately post up! I want to know if the extra 200+ for this part is worth it to get, since I believe intake systems SHOULD come with this part anyways to complete the intake system.

Will do, I'll get on it tonight, I got a 6 hour drive to go see family tonight so I'll probably post up what I think about it monday evening. The stock one does look pretty shitty compared to the rpmc

there were a ton on craigslist, just find ones that have pics so you can see how it looks. I paid $100 shipped and its MINT. I know you can get one for sure. Otherwise, PM lestat13 since he may sell his as he has 4 bovs currently hehe. even recirculated, the high pitched whistle it makes is still heard clearly and ear piercing as opposed to a WHOOSH sounding bov that would be severely muffled by recirculating it. the whistle of the tyhpe-s is muffled but its loud enough to begin with that its still heard loudly

Well I didn't get on my car that much, I was trying to see if it did any difference with gas mileage since I drove 800 miles on it this weekend. And I got the same gas mileage which is good. I'll get on it tomorrow on my way to work to see how it responds. I did notice that it doesn't take much to ge the turbo spoolin. My CAI is alot louder now which is pretty sick. So far I'm glad I purchased this product. Good buy for the money I think

I got on it a couple of times today and I can barely hear my stock bpv now. I think I need to do something about my exhaust though. Seems like I'm getting too much air coming in and need more to go out. I'm gonna look into a test pipe with a high flow cat now. I think the motor mount can wait unless I get the inserts

why is it you can barely hear your bpv now, is it that your turbo is too whiny/loud with this part or the intake is more throaty sounding?
a louder turbo sound is a definate plus for me, I am eager to see if this part would really work well.

I mostly just hear the cai sucking air in and hear the turbo spoolin. So I don't even hear my bpv when I shift, I can barely hear it if I gas it for a second and let off. Turbo does spool alot faster though, and I hold boost I'm pretty sure til 6k rpm. Need to do somemore runs
