So I have a small obsession for wanting a motorcycle, but that obsession can't be fulfilled for several reasons, so instead I wanted a Mountain Bike and finally got one!

I've only been out riding a few times and I absolutely love being on a bike again in god knows how long! There are a couple things I need to upgrade like now though. Figured i'd get the input from you guys who may know more about it than I do.

Locking Cable
I know there's a vinyl locking cable, a chain locking cable and one of those aluminum U-Bars. Which is typically the best? I'd imagine the U-Bar style is the best but I can't seem to figure out where you'd put that on the bike to store while you're riding.

Seat..
My biggest complaint is probably the same complaint as anyone. The seat is so damn uncomfortable. With every rut and bump in the road, that thing sends shocks straight up my spine and hurts the obvious over a short ride. I want to get a better seat, but don't know if I should go straight to the largest cushioniest seat available or what? Any tips here?

Gloves
The grips on the bike are never designed for comfort. My hand has an imprint of hard rubber designs left on my palm every time I ride and it's just definitely uncomfortable. Any suggestions?

I'm ready to just go the shop who tuned the bike up for me and see what they have, but they are a smaller mom&pop shop and I'm sure everything they have is top dollar with the limited amount of traffic they get.

You may find this strange Mike, but I raced Semi-pro for years when I lived out west. I ride 3 or 4 times a week. I have a full suspension Haro XL5 with fill Shimano XT components and hollowtech... Seats are a problem for everyone. You really just have to spend enough time in the saddle to get over it. Bigger heavier seats suck. Are you street riding or actually mountain biking? There are actually a lot of trails in the area. Let me know if you want to ride or go part shopping...

Street riding, never actually been off-road at all. Thats awesome that you did that for so long though! I have a really basic bike, nothing fancy at all.

I use my mountain bike for on road use. Its a Mongoose and came with a hemerhoid inducing seat. I actually just replaced it with a seat I got from target for $20....SOOOOOOOOOO much better, I can go miles with out the ass pain now lol

kinda looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/Schwinn-Pillow-Cruiser-Bicycle-Seat/dp/B000DZF6WO/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1218735555&sr=8-3

but its only a little bigger than a normal sized seat...

I'm going on a 52 mile ride at 11:00 ET (rail to trail for rode bikes). I have a cannondale triathlon bike with 105 components. It rocks my socks. Also, my lookin seat is about the most comfy thing EVER.

Next week i'm doing a 65 mile race (i'll be hoping to finish) in Reston, VA.
