are you talking about the upper part (main bearing support) or the lower part?

well i dont know much about the 1.6 or the differences between the 2.0 and the 1.6 but with the 2.0 (the lower part, part with drain plug) there is a nut welded onto the pan. if you thread a bolt into that nut it will pop the pan off.

As for the upper part in the 2.0. Its a aluminum piece that is between the lower oil pan and the block. There are 2 hidden bolts that attach it to the main seal, i think thats what its called

oh. i think the 1.6l is all 1 piece. interesting abotu the nut u screw somethign into tho. i'll ahve to look into that

where exatcally is this nut located on teh lower pan on the 2.0L. i was looking at a service manual diagram for the 1.6L and i see now what you are talking about wit hthe lower pan and the bearing cover

um its around the perimiter with the rest of the bolts. I cant remember exactly but i think its on the front side of the oil pan. opposite of drain plug...

I will try to search and find a pic of it...

k. cause it has to be there. or something. all 205lbs of me was hanging off of it today and it wouldnt budge. something has to pry it off and God knows i dont have little hands to get tools up there to wedge it off plus i dont want to damage the gasket surface by bending the metal

Yea in the last month i have had to remove my oil pan twice to repair and replace rod bearings... Well now whole enging but thats a long story.
But i used a bolt threaded through the nut to get a little bit of space, then used a metal putty knife to slowly cut away at the gasket, just to keep the oilpan from bending at all.

They SUCK!!!!

Ok well i found this pic, its of a 2.0 and its of the back side. I dont know how big its going to be since im not good at uploading pics haha.

But the nut will be on the fron side, between two bolt holes.

well the nipple that sticks out that the drain plug is screwed into. i put a heavy duty rope around that and started to pull and pull and finally said F it and just used all my weight. i body build so i thought i could muscle it off the damn block but obviously not. ill look for the nut you are talking about. i hope its there

Oh and if you look just above the black part of the oilpan, you can see the main bearing support i was talking about.

Um... i dont remember exactly. I know the shop i am working on it at used a regular gasket and some crazy strong black stuff. I might be able to get that info for you tomoro...

Oh and i was looking at the 1.6l oilpan on Rock auto and it doesnt look like there is a welded nut like there is on the 2.0. I hope im wrong and there is but it doesnt look like it.

if there isnt then i dont even know how a shop would get it off because it will not budge. therse gotta be a trick to it that im missing

well... if you have a putty knife try that. Just be carefull not to damage the upper part too much

with the cat, tranny, transaxle, a/c compressor and the body of the car there isnt any room for a putty knife. i tried it already. this is the most bs frustrating crap ever. how the F are u suppsoed to get the oil pan off!? im going to take a sledge hammer to it if ntohing else works tomrow

well i would say i would help ya out but im 1000 miles away haha.

How bad are they leaking??

its not major. its been doing it since i got the car. i mean i never have to put oil in. it makes it to each oil change and stays full. but when u get under the car you can see its seaping out onto the outside of the pan because its built up gunk on it. all the sides are fine where the silicone sealant is. its the 2 ends at the crank and the flywheel where the rubber is. i talked to our mechanic who did my timing belt and he said $200-250 for the job.

Is that 200-250 for both parts? If so that sounds like a good price.

parts labor and full synthetic oil change since i run valvoline synthetic. since i just put new oil in yesterday i am going to wait till i need an oil change again and then get it done

i recently took the pan off of my 1.6. you might be trying to wedge inbetween the main bearing support plate and the block. the support plate is bolted on so if you were wedged in between that it would come off, i did the same thing. The problem is the flange for the oil pan and the support plate take the same dimension so you have to get something really thin in between them and then take something larger to pry them apart, there are no hidden bolts on the 1.6 and there is no nut to screw something into like on the 2.0. That is almost definitely the problem.
