The somewhat ungainly proportions of BMW’s not-a-sedan, not-an-SUV X6 have been the subject of intense debate. It’s not ugly in the traditional sense, but it’s not especially attractive either. AC Schnitzer has nevertheless decided to take on the challenge of tuning the X6, focusing its efforts on the diesel-powered versions.

The diesel choice is an odd one, given the potential for the twin-turbo V8 also found in the X6, but it suits the similarly odd-ball status of the X6. By tuning the computer for both the 3.0d and the 3.5d, the company has improved performance, though it hasn’t yet released exact details. The final performance upgrade is a new spring kit developed by AC Schnitzer’s technical director, custom designed on the Nurburgring.
The rest of the upgrades are primarily cosmetic, though the dual-flow AC Schnitzer Racing Design exhaust with chrome tips is a dual-use addition. A full body kit done in all body-color paint, repositioned fog lights, massive wheels and a rear diffuser complete the exterior look. Inside, the EVO three-spoke steering wheel with airbag enhances the feel and look of the cockpit.

^^ LOL. It does not matter what tuning you do to it, it is just plain weird. That poor thing is helpless...

^ I just do not understand why BMW felt tohe need to design a SAV coupe. I drove a X6 V8 which is a great driver but you can not haul crap in the back. I would advice people if they want a BMW SAV to go for either the X5 or X3 over the X6.

To be honest I don't know if they are selling well or not but we still have some few rich people out there who can afford these SUVish but not really functional type cars.

Whatever, to my point. I believe BMW came a little bit late with the X6. While not the same car, I think its target market is very similar to the Hummer one: Brand, big, powerful, off road capable (AKA show-off factor) but not too much functionality in real life...

From what I've heard BMW has sold out the X6. Which I find hard to believe since I have not seen one on the road or at my work. The local BMW center has 8 X6s on their lot.

Just when we thought we were rid of the 318Ti...they make a bigger and more powerful (and equally ugly) one. It's nothing more than a hatchback on stilts. Fugly doesn't quite cover it.

Well you can only do so much with something designed by Chris Bangle, did they back that thing into a trash compactor. I dont understand the need for a X3,5,6

Well I can understand the need for both the X3 and X5 but not for the X6 and the soon to be coming out X4.

Damn that thing is ugly...no body kit can help.

X3: still small enough to look OK, X5: the Cayenne success says it all, but never heard about the X4 (not that I would shop around for any SUVish thing, LOL)

I would take a ti anyday....especially a Clubsport with either a s50 or s52 under the hood.

As much as people bash the X6, BMW didn't invent the SUV coupe. The Infiniti FX and Lexus RX have had a coupe-ish roofline for quite some time longer than the X's.

Rumor has it as a smaller version of the X6 with the same coupe style lines and it will be based on the all new X3. How many SAVs does BMW need? I would rather see them bring over rest of the 1 series to the states.

Exactly, SUVs are running out of fashion quickly, and small cars are in!

But the Infiniti SUVs look good though...

Yes they do both have a coupe-ish roofline but at as much as the X6. I should go compare all 3 on interior and cargo room.

Wouldn't the CX-7 be labeled as a FAT hatchback on stilts as well? I'm so evil. hehe

and thank god for the stilts. i'm surprised my old protege isn't still stuck in that field where we parked for my sister in law's horse competition. i thought one of the tow vehicles was going to have to rescue us. ;)

anyway, to answer the X6 utility question: cargo space starts at 25 cubic ft, expandable to 60 cubic feet.

a 5-series wagon can hold 33-58 cubic feet. a CX-7 holds 29-59. seems reasonably useful to me. *shrug*

Wow, some restraint from ACS? Usually there aesthetic mods are ridiculously over-the-top!

Well I just had a X6 here at work and a dishwasher would not fit into the back of it even with the seats folded down. The hatch was not able to close. But it fit fine in both the 535it, X3, and X5 that are in the company fleet here.

There was an Infiniti FX in the customer parking lot and that even has more overall cargo room by just looking at it. It does not have a coupe styled rear like the X6.

A Mazda5 can hold up to 44 cubic feet but a member in this forum posted that the Mazda5 space is more practical than a CX-7 because of how those cargo cu ft are distributed (this member owns a CX-7)

Now, of course, the CX-7 low angle rear window does make it look sexier than the boxy Mazda5 rear, that is a fact

so for those who aren't in the habit of toting around dishwashers...i might argue that none of those cars are particularly useful b/c i can't get a washer and dryer in any of them, like i can into the full-size ford van owned by a friend's father. if i can't carry multiple large appliances at once, what's the point? ;)

there are plenty of otherwise practical cars that won't swallow a dishwasher...aren't there? the X6 seems to offer at least as much utility as any sedan.

actually, the 5 has a maximum of 71 cubic feet, which is pretty impressive. it's absolutely more practical than a CX-7. when i was shopping, i would have considered it except that w/ the seats folded, there are huge gaps in the load floor...not good for dog feet and legs.

but i'm not going to sit here and slam the car just b/c it wasn't what i was looking for. ;)
