i wanted to know if i could get away with tinting or smoking my head and taillights, and if i could if there's a limit or if not, what i should look for in terms of PASSING inspection-- that's my big thing right now-- i really want them smoked, but have to pass inspection NORTH CAROLINA RALEIGH

All light assemblies are DOT approved and it's illegal to modify them, which includes tinting. Now, people get away with it all the time. It depends on what they look for during inspection. In Jersey, you'd never, ever get away with it unless you paid someone off at a private inspection station, but NJ is becoming the East Coast Calee-for-knee-uh.
