Nissan has officially confirmed that the G37 sedan, G37 convertible and G37x coupe will be joining the Infiniti lineup for the 2009 model year. The additions to the Infiniti lineup were widely assumed, especially since Infiniti unveiled a range of 3.7L-powered vehicles in March for the European market.
As the name change implies, the G37 sedan will now share the same 3.7L V6 used in the G37 coupe, bumping horsepower from 306 to 328. The upgrades for 2009 will also include a new optional 7-speed automatic transmission, an optional sport brake package, new design 18-inch wheels and standard Scratch Shield paint.
The G37 convertible will mark the first Infiniti drop top since the M30 convertible – which was discontinued in 1992 and made famous by the movie Three Kings — and will inevitably lead to the question ‘Does Lexus make this model?’
The G37x promises to give buyers in the Snow Belt the added security of all-wheel drive without giving up the sleek look of a two-door coupe.
The G37 sedan and G37x coupe are slated to be unveiled in two weeks with an on sale date in September. However, Infiniti will wait until November’s Los Angeles Auto Show to unveil the hardtop G37 convertible, with sales to begin shortly after.

It's sad that I know exactly what they're talking about. I think that's the first time I discovered that car existed too.

I knew that they existed because one of my aunt's own both a M30 convertible and coupe.

Infiniti has issued a press release that is a bit of a teaser on its "G" lineup, but the real meat will be revealed in 10 days at the 2008 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. It is there that the world will get its first official glimpse of the 2009 Infiniti G37 convertible, which is slated to go on sale in the first quarter of next year.
The venue will also be the coming-out party for the 2009 Infiniti G37x all-wheel-drive coupe. Infiniti spokesman Josh Clifton told Inside Line on Wednesday that consumers should look for the G37x in showrooms at the end of September or early October, although the on-sale date has not been finalized at this point. Infiniti may not release pricing on the "G" lineup until early September, but Clifton said a good ballpark number for the G37x would be "around $35,000."
The 2009 G37 sport sedan gets a "significant upgrade" for the new model year with the addition of a new 3.7-liter V6 rated at 328 horsepower. It is mated to a new seven-speed automatic transmission or a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission. Other changes include new optional sport brakes, a new sport 18-inch wheel design and standard Scratch Shield paint, a so-called "self healing" clearcoat finish. The 2009 G37 sedan goes on sale in September.
In addition to the G37x model, all of the 2009 Infiniti G37 sport coupes get the Scratch Shield paint and a choice of the new seven-speed automatic transmission with Drive Sport mode.
The 2009 Infiniti G37 convertible, with a three-piece automatic retractable hardtop, makes its world debut at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

The G37 awd coupe and convertible are gonna be heavy mofos! The coupe is heavy enough. 400hp would be a nice round number to counter all that weight.

I think 330hp will do just fine moving them around. The TT I-6 in the BMW 335 has no problem hauling around both the Sedan, Coupe, and Hardtop Vert with 300hp.

I could be thinking of something else entirely, but IIRC the previous coupe was actually heavier than the sedan.
Edit: Confirmed - the coupe was about 50 lbs heavier than the sedan.

Hmmm...in pics 2 & 4 it appears to be parked behind an Infiniti FX50. I wasn't aware that such a model was available. Interesting...

It doesn't quite yet. It's the new FX. There's a thread on it somewhere around here. It's also ugly as sin.

Note to the Lexus SC430: it is now beyond over for you. Infiniti, Nissan's BMW-hunting luxury brand, has unveiled the 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible, a retractable hardtop 4-seater that preserves the Coupe's good looks even with its 3-piece folding metal roof neatly tucked out of sight, as you can see here. Power from the 3.7L V6 will be in excess of 320 horses, and numerous comparos against the BMW 335i convertible are inevitable. You can practically hear the buff mags reserving track time as we speak. Sunny Los Angeles will be the venue for the car's formal unveiling in November, and likely a fertile ground for sales when the time comes.
