When we got our 5, the salesman said the first oil change should be done at 3k or 3 months, then 7500 thereafter. The book (according to Sch 2) says every 5k miles. I'm at 2500 miles right now and have a 1000 mile roadtrip planned at the end of the month. Should I go ahead and get the oil changed at 3k before the trip or wait until after for 5k?

just for the sake of having peace of mind...do it before the trip. (cool)

Every 5K-7.5K is OK, oil quality and engines durability are much better nowadays (or unless you don't like the environment ;))

I would change out the break in oil just to get anything that might have been left in there during manufacture or break in out. Then don't sweat 5-7K changes.

Huh, my dealership said leave the oil until 8k. (kilometers)

It seemed like a weird thing to say.

It becomes a little bit ambiguous as we have left out the unit of measurement ... themagni, I suppose you're in Canada? The 8K your dealer recommended is probably in km. The Schedule 2 in the owner's manual (I think it applies to most owners in N.A.) recommends every 8,000 km or 5,000 miles interval.

Take it in before the trip and then when the dealer sends a coupon. We had it changed ate 6 months (whatever Sc 1 said) and the dealer out a 3mo/3000 mi reminder on the windshield. I just got a coupon up at the end of the August so will take it in then (though it's only been 4 months). that reminds me, I need to pick up an air filter...
