I contacted Cobb directly the other day and they said another 3 weeks at least until the next batch gets shipped to distributors. As of now, they are 100% on backorder through every site and store imaginable. I'm pretty sure all of the other sites go with the same procedure where you can purchase one through their websites at the moment, and then they will charge you when the item physically ships and not at this exact moment (so you won't be out any money until your SRI is on the truck or plane to your house). Hope this helps and remember, patience is a virtue!

I had one on back order with PG, then another vendor, forgot which one, posted that he had 6 in stock. Before the afternoon was done they were gone. I was on 247 when he posted, so I PM'ed him immediately and got one. This was back in May. Sometimes you just get lucky.
Look on Ebay, I have seen them on there. Be patient and get the Cobb, you won't be disappointed.

Yes but unfortunately cannot be made as easily as hot cakes...
The news was that there were quality issues so they ditched one third party vendor and had to find another...so at least we know they are committed to quality...
but yeah doesn't make waiting any easier...(hand)

They can not charge your card because that is the law. Hopefully they are keeping track of back order quantitys from all of their vendors so everyone is sure to get one. With the ammount I see being ordered it is likely everyones order will not be filled as timely. They will get what they get and hopefully honor first come first serve. I have a CAI right now and am getting one to get me through the winter.

This was the e-mail I received from Street Unit when I placed my order on 07/21:
The Cobb Short Ram Intake is currently on worldwide backorder and will be for sometime to come. Cobb has indicated a part shortage and is telling us around 8 weeks before they will be shipping them again. Are you OK to wait for the product to be back in production/stock?
We do have another option from HKS which is very similar it is a short ram intake with a design almost the same.

I had the same prob. back in June. When mine did come in the vanes in the sensor were warped. Talked with Cobb and they're shipping me a replacement as soon as the new ones come in. Otherwise easy install. Goes like stink. Not ever sure if the warped vanes are hurting anything. Looks like someone popped the housing out of the mold a little early.

you're not going to be taking anyone that's been backordered because Cobb has specific amounts of units that they will ship out to vendors according to how many they ordered. cobb HQ will have the same number of SRI's in the main warehouse regardless (since they sell directly they must keep their own quantity as well). oh yeah, cobb HQ also takes direct orders through phone as well. just fyi to all the others that aren't located in Utah.

hehe that was me :). The latest I heard from Cobb is it will be another week before I get more in. Who knows how reliable that is. Its been about two months between shipments. I don't sell what I don't have and I'll be sure to post. The last time I listed the 10 that I had they were gone in about an hour.

So how can you tell which Cobb intake was built with parts supplied from the bad parts vendor? Arn't they also changing something on the intake for the better?
Reason I ask is because i'm interested in purchasing one, but want to make sure it's the right setup.

^^^^ Let's all sell our SRI's and make a killing on Ebay like that guy!
I sold my COBB SRI for $219 shipped a few weeks back. Stoke the fire while it's hot, as they say.
I was planning on getting a Street Unit red COBB SRI, but at this point there's no light at the end of the tunnel. So I canceled my pre-order and bought a red powdercoated CP-E CAI.

I said the same thing, but what's $120 in 2 more months? I waste that much a month for sure. So I said screw it! And my CP-E intake will be here tomorrow!

Buy some fuckin PVC pipe, throw a filter on the end, and you've got a cobb short ram intake right there! ;) Or buy a different brand off ebay, things are much cheaper and easier to get on there!

Ummm, what abut the velocity stack and air flow straightener?? That can't be replicated on some PVC piping by any conventional means. Obviously COBB put good R&D into the SRI, and it has paid off with their sales and popularity. I am making the wait. Luckily for me I will have just broken in the motor by the time the intake arrives.

Or you could do the same thing with a longer pipe and make a CAI. I hope you're joking..

I spoke with Cobb earlier today and I must say it was a good experience.
The Cobb intake is on roughly a 4-6 week backorder because of the fact they had to switch suppliers. The supplier who was making their MAF housing pieces kept going further and further away from their specs. Until someone finally pointed it out and they rectified the situation. So that's why there's a hold up. It's not so much Cobb's fault. I'd rather they do what they did rather than keep sending out potentially faulty products while they work with another vendor.
Are you guys really that impatient where you can't wait a little while? It's not like it's an absolute necessity for your car to perform, period. Not like we've got any competitions coming up and you've GOT to have an intake ready for Saturday's track day. Give me a break. That's what happens with modding though, burns a fuckin hole in your wallet.
Also, they were kind enough to explain some of the benefits of their new BPV (piston-style, but with rubber seals instead of metal-on-metal like other ones). I'll be happy to wait for both products and install them on my car. That's a quality company right there.
