Ok, well i was coming home from a party tonight (designated driver ftw) (five-0) = bad...
anyways I'm not a huge person of knowledge of my car at this point (17 cut me some slack) but well.. i press my Accelerator and it goes into high revs but the car acts as if it was in "neutral" instead of Drive? I'm guessing its the Timing belt? but i have no clue what so ever.
ok.. i press the gas.. car revs to about 5k, 6k rpms and then the car like hits a click the belt or something and then lunges and then picks up speed. I'm going 45 trying to speed up to pass a slow ass truck and does this, well i thought i would ask some people in here before i have to pay a stupid idiot $200 to "look" at my car... any thoughts?

Well, i really dont think its the timing belt.
But it does sound like Transmission issues.
Is it Auto or manual? (auto with tiptronic)?

Check your fluid level my friend....Sounds like the tranny is slipping.

You may just be low on fluid..Very low...and if you are...I would suspect a leak from somewhere.

Check under the car for evidence of leaking fluid.

Also check the color of the trans fluid.
a. Clear Red = Normal
b. Dark, Muddy, Varnished or strange smelling = Powertrain components damaged.
c. Light pink = Water in AT fluid
d. Reddish Brown = Deteriorated AT fluid.

thats pretty much directly out of a mazda protege manual.
and i recommend not changing the fluid your self.
get a mechanic to do it for you, as you will never get the old fluid out of the car completly. its a crappy process.

ok thanks guys, ya i just went out side and talked to my neighbor (mechanic in training?) and he said it more then likely is my fluid level i looked earlier today and it was like below 56c and more like at 32c
but im not sure.. its low right now im guessing.. (never added in the year or so ive had it a & also salvaged) so im guessing its low.. but ill check in the morning but thanks for all the help!

Also
if the Power train components are damaged does that mean new tranny :[? if so im soooo fucked =/ my car = my responsibility which sucks bad..
New tranny = no money for 2 months.. curse you $7.50 an hour!

flush it and put in 2 quarts of lucas stop slip in my jeep the plug fell out and all the fluid leaked out and i ran it for like 6 miles slipping like mad got home put in 2 quarts of lucas and 2 quarst of cheap trans fluid and runs like new btw its an 88 jeep almost a year already and still runs like new

ps i also changed the filter so you should try it as well as adding a trans cooler i did it also
