alright... for anyone here who has rebuilt a g series...
i built a new transmission for my escort about 6 weeks ago. it consisted of a mix and match of parts to get the bellhousing and gear ratios that i wanted. the bellhousing was from one tranny, everything else came from another tranny. i also installed a quaife at this time.
because of this, i had to reshim. i measured as best i could with feeler gauges, over and over... and shimmed according to the 3rd gen pro rebuild manual. this tranny used no spring shims on the shaft races like older g-series, so internally it is set up the same as the BJ trannies.
i had a noticeable amount of radial shaft play, which worried me... but i had no time and had to put the car together for the races. made it to the races... actually won 1st place in my bracket class, and nothing blew up (phew).
now, here's the problem. i'm getting notchy/hard shifting. i had to remove the shifter gate to grind it down for the quaife bolt clearance... maybe its not aligned just right? or maybe this is due to my ghetto shim-measurement technique?
how do you guys measure for your shims? how do you realign the shifter gate?
