coolant tank BLEW

i was driving down the highway, normal speed. all of a sudden smoke started coming out of the hood. pulled over took a look. coolant everywhere. the tank busted in half. the motor was really hot it was almost at the H. i ordered a new coolant tank and thermostat installed it and everything seems to be fine. Do you think it cause any serious damage? im kinda a noob but i got some basic knolege.

should be fine as long as you didnt keep driving it white redlined in heat

what temp stat did you get? 180's

If the needle on the "temperature gauge" is anywhere above 1/2 way that's your indication to STOP DRIVING THE CAR! Just like most OEM gauges it isn't very accurate so even if it isn't in the "H" you're likely causing damage. It's just like the oil light. Just because it isn't on doesn't mean you're not low on oil. By the time it comes on it's more than likely too late...
