So my e brake light and abs light decide to come on out of no where not sure what the problem or cause is anyone on here have this problem or heard of it because i have no clue i was thinking maybe it trying to tell me i need to change my rear pads because they are getting low but my front pads are fine. I know the car has that automatic brake distribution but im stumped on this one any help would be appreciated. Also when you turn the car off and back on it resets it self and goes off but then a short time later it will come back on. Other than that would anyone no why i have gone through to manifold gaskets in less than a year mine just blew again on the right corner it sounds like

ABS light maybe fromt the rerar pads worn..but also check ur brake fluid reservior. some time that is wat cause the light to be on...good luck and change ur pads...
oh and ur gasket maybe from a warp manifold...plus they should be retorqued after a few hundred miles....

both mine came on a couple months ago. and looked around and found my brake fluid was low, filled up and and lights went away, that what i would check.

could be a bad wheel speed sensor

Bad wheel speed sensor will only cause the ABS light to come on. Check your fluid and pads just like everyone else has suggested.

I would say the ABS sensors.

I have this problem also... it shows up for a short while. The speedo goes dead. It resets and then all is fine. I talked with the local mazda dealer and they stated that most likely I have a faulty ABS sensor. He wanted 109 to diagnose it and then 200 for the part.
He said that when these lights are on the abs will not work on the car. I took it out to a dead road and got up to about 40km and hit the breaks hard. Sure enough she locked right up... and the lights came off. But they still pop on every once in a while.

Is there a way to check myself to see which sensor would be faulty?

thanks everyone.

And my apologies to the o.p. regarding hijacking your thread.

How do you check for a bad wheel speed sensor. $100 for each rear and $150 for each front. I'd like to know what it is rather than wasting money.

Ok, I had this same issue after doing a rear motor mount on my car. It seems that the plug for the ABS computer is directly below the battery. The plug is held on with a grey clip that is supposed to lock the plug into the ABS ECU. I had to use a zip-tie around the ABS ECU and harness. There are some ways to get the error codes from the ABS ECU in the service manual.

Will have to look at that.

My ABS light comes on about twice a week. I can turn the car off and back on and it goes off. Loose wire?

Found my problem. I had recently removed my front struts to replace the strut bearing and strut. The brace that goes across the back to the strut holds the ABS wire. When I was putting the strut back in it got hung up on the brace and bent it all to hell. At the time I didn't notice, after the ABS light came on here and there I pulled the wheel and saw the mangled brace. I removed the brace and inspected the wire. It was split. I spliced in a new wire to lengthen the split and everything is good to go.

Have you had your struts replaced recently?

mine went off after i refilled up the brake fluid res., check that first, that mostly like problem, and the easiest fix too!

If thats the case it means ur pads are worn because they are using more fluid

I am experiencing the same problem. I had my pads and rotors replaced not too long ago, perhaps they messed it up when they did it. Now, would a OBD II scanner tell me which side it is since I am getting the ABS light and brake light? Don't feel like replacing both for nothing

Update: I ran a OBD ii Scan and didn't get any codes.....is it possible that a generic OBD ii scanner doesn't pick up this code?

obd scanner i do not believe will pick it up......maybe a snap-on modis computer may pick it up..........do a visual inspection and check all the wires to the wheel sensor make sure none of them snapped.......the wheel sensor wires are very thin and a slight pressure can cause them to snap....check all of the wheel sensors for shits and gigs.

You need a special scanner that reads codes for the ABS module. Some auto parts stores have this available to use, but I would call around first.

That's what I thought. I guess I'll stick to the good old visual inspection....

I hate that i even looked at this page last week, cause here i am now, trying to figure out wth my ABS and Ebrake light came on almost 20 hours later afteer i just did my engine swap...???

1) I checked my pads, all pads have 50% or more pad.

2) Check my resevoir - FULL

I did have to replace my front, rear, and passenger side engine mounts. I'm really happy to see MX5RACER addressing his issue - Truly, this mazda board has been a wickedly awsome assistance in my nearest time of need.

I love you guys (butthump) xo

Going to check this out after work - frig, it's raining out.

i had this problem after i took the abs fuse out, both lights were on so I put the fuse back in cuz it was gonna irritate me, I dont know why the brake light would stay on but After I put it back in all was well, dunno if this helps but might be it

both lights on is the abs sensor and could be a warped rotor

I had the same problem with my mazda 6, ABS light is on, handbrake light is on, check engine light is on, speedometer is dead, milage is not counting, and sometimes the transmission light goes on, AT, and the transmission stops changing gears, it goes bizerk untill i turn of the car and start it again.

After checking the problem it seems that the whole ABS control unit with the pump has to be changed due to ubnormal readings, no sensors or anything else, just the control unit. but good luck in finding one, i searched all around and no used part and the new one costs over 1000US$ and had to be ordered from Japan.

So u wanna turn of ur ABS light, change the control unit, and take some prozac cause the price tag is gonna kill ya. (sick)
