OBD2 Manufacturer Specific PID Values

So, I've been searching through these forums and the internet for the past couple of days, trying to find a way to get more information out of my OBD2 port on my 2002 Protege (2.0mtx).

Pretty much the only information I've found is "buy our program and use our custom hardware interface for $100-$500!", and not a lick of information on how to access anything other than what is considered generic pid values. I have an ELM327 based unit, and my car uses ISO-9141, so I have no issues grabbing the generic PID values, things like engine and vehicle speed. I do want more than that though, is this just a pipe dream? Or is it the realm of having to pay to play?

I can't even find a solid answer of "Yes, you can find this stuff online somewhere" or "No, you'll never find it so stop trying". I'm almost to the point of building an adapter to plug inbetween the cables and ECU and reading off sensor data that way.


So yeah, any input would be greatly appriciated :)
