outside mirror installation

I Have A 08 Cx9 And One Side Mirror Cracked. I Purchased A New Mirror From The Dealer Thinking That The New Glass Only Repair Would Be A Snap. Wrong !! I Can Not Get The Two Motion Buttons To Snap Into The Back Plate. Any Secrets To This Installation?

1. Apply some white grease (or WD40) on the ball and socket joints
2. Position the internal parts directly towards joints on the mirror plate
3. Push the mirror right behind the joints. It will snap.
