ok. i'm sure a lot of you guys already know that my '07 sunlight silver was egged a few weeks after getting it. i stressed and stressed over what to do about it. i finally decided to touch it up the best i could and live with it. i thought a lot about having the panel resprayed but i have anxiety about the shop matching the color 99%/or messing something else up in the process. :(
so. i walk outside tonight with my g/f. we were just going to take the car out for a ride and she says "what's that on your car?" "it's egg"
FUCK! (bang)(bang)(bang)(bang)(bang)(bang)(bang)
(bang)(bang)(bang)(bang)(bang)(bang)(bang)(bang)
(bang)(bang)(bang)(bang)(bang)(bang)(bang)(bang)
fucking haters man! i'm 99% sure the egg only hit one panel. which, fortunately, was the same panel that was egged the first time. the driver door. there are like 2 very small chips that made their way onto the rear driver door.
it's obvious now that i'm going to have to have it resprayed. if it doesn't turn out the way i want it to, i'm gonna have to get rid of it.
i'm not gonna hold my breath...

i'm sorry about that man. that's exactly what happened to me. :( i'm glad i atleast waited to repair the first egging though since it got egged again.
Someone not like you?
idk man. i didn't think so. i mean, it's always a possibility. my car has been egged twice and the family jeep egged once also. idk what gives. it's leading me to believe that someone i know did this. everyone knows how much i love my car. they just wanna see me down i guess. :(
i'm researching to find the best quality oe paint repair i can. i know there's someone out there that can match this. there has to be.
i've seen a few jobs, quickly, that looked pretty good when i was researching this the first time. but idk. i'm gonna be looking into this for the next few days.
i was just talking with my gf about whether or not i should keep it due to finances. and i always stress over whether or not i should get the original chips repaired. i'm glad i didn't now. then i was just like, "wanna go for a ride?"
we get outside and there it is. unholy yellow and white goo. :(
i'm so bummed out.(sick)

you guys are way to nice, paintballs and pellets? here in florida if someone comes on your property and you feel threatened, its legal to unload. but then again if you come in my yard, make it all the way up the driveway (big yard) without the dogs either attacking you or barking and waking me up to come shoot you, then hell you deserve to vandalize something. I'm not talking kill someone, just pepper them with some birdshot.

yea i know that, but paintball is fun. they are probably young teens having fun. a few paintballs to the chest (or the face) can straighten that out.

paintball while fun doesn't IMO make up for the time you now have to take to find a decent bodyshop, get a quote, claim on insurance if thats what u wanted to do, have the downthim for the panel to get painted, then the possiblilty that it will no be right (runs, fisheyes, mismatch, metalflake lays odd). I take great pride in my car and its an investment that i pay lots of money to own and operate so egging my car to me is like punching me in the face.
controlo
07-24-2008, 11:17 AM
yeah. paintballs are definitely not what i had in mind.
the fact that my car is the only car that got egged makes me wonder if it's somebody out to get me.
and here in california, atleast in my neighborhood, there aren't any fences so it's pretty easy for someone to come into your yard.
my girlfriend saw a white acura integra DA driving nasty in our neigborhood just after we saw the egging. we drove around a bit and spoke with this guy who says the night before, his friend was outside waiting for him and some guys in a white integra were about to throw a brick into her window and noticed she was in the car. she got the plate number. i'm gonna give that guy a call today.
i agree jville: it's not really the downtime that's important to me but i pay a lot of money for this car for somebody to mess it up. i e-mailed SPECIALTY CAR CRAFT. they do luxury and exotic cars. hopefully they're willing to take on a car like mine. it says they accept insurance claims and stuff. i'll be in contact with them today.

Well you don;t really need an exotic car body shop to do it. jaxjeff had a lil fenderbender and i refered him to a local shop with the shiznit of a painter. his paints shade, flake lay, and shine are dead on. Best thing to do is ask around and check out a shops past works.

That really sucks man. I hear you about stressing on getting a respray that will come out 100%. I've had my speed 3 for a little over three months and had a run in with a RR crossing gate (it's in a weird spot) which scratched my roof, and although it's not horrible it was enough to scratch down to the metal in two spots...I could probably get it 90% corrected without a respray but since the car is so new I decided to shell out $500 out of my deductible and get it redone. Now I'm waiting for my appointment to come up hoping it will be a painless experience but I have to wait until August 21st to get in a shop I trust.
I wrote a letter to the RR company and the town complaining how dangerous that crossing is because there is barely any notification (I think two dings) before the arms come down and if you're making a right turn you could get stuck there before you can get out of the way.

what happens if someone dings your door and the dent can't be popped?

i think it is a bit anal to even consider selling the car if the paint doesn't match. i can't change the way i think.
it may seem utterly ridiculous to some, but it's obviously not ridiculous to me.
i don't want to sell the car, but i'm not going to drive around something that doesn't look good while paying 400/mo.
we'll see what happens. i'll post up some pics tomorrow or something.
it's not that i'm getting rid of it because it got egged. but it's been egged twice. our jeep has been egged once. and i'm not talking about inevitable damage here, i.e. bird shit/ rock chips. this didn't happen from driving it.
idk. i love this car to death and i hope they can get the paint right.
i talked to a guy today with a silver zo6 and he said that it can be done, it just might take a few tries. he had aftermarket rear fenders and aftermarket hood painted here in town and it looked very good.
at first, he told me to get it touched up but after talking with him, he told me he's had 3 silver cars have work done here and they all came out well.

why not get it done at the dealership if u are worried about matching
because the dealership body shops are all shit.
the last car i took to the dealership had the car in the shop like 10 times. ridiculously shitty. you could tell they knew how to paint, they just didn't want to spend the time. i had my front bumper painted. i painted the front grille myself a semi-gloss black color. when i got the car back, the tC emblem i put on the front was missing and the grille looks like it'd been sandblasted.
i'm not worried about whether or not they will color match it. i'm worried whether or not it can be done.
any shop that does work has guarantee's. usually including 100% satisfaction. meaning, they're going to do it until it's right.

I had a silver 2002 Protege ES (until this past november) that was involved in a fender bender and i took it to a shop i trust and he repaired everything and you couldnt tell the repair from the rest of the paint. as long as they know what they are doing and know how to fade in the new paint to the old you cannot tell, even up close.

I would say that you should fill up about 5-10 water balloons with fresh paint and stake out if you don't have a paintball gun. Once you get their car nice and good, call the cops and tell them that you were experimenting with painting a room in your house when you saw a car full of hooligans come up and it was the first thing that came to mind. A car with a few giant paint splatters should be pretty easy for them to find. Just my .02 cause that's honestly what I would do if someone did that to my car.

there are probably 100 chips in all from the three eggs.
the one nearest the window trim and the one in the middle of the door were from the first egging. the new one is on the edge of the driver door.

There is no miracle fix..IT sucks..and People dont even realize what damage eggs do unless they have had it happen to them.

i'm semi-optimistic right now after talking with the shop, but who knows.
i know it's not going to be 110% perfect but i know it's possible to make a seemless repair. most body shop repairs that are done aren't done with care. especially insurance jobs. the shop really usually don't give a shit and usually neither does the client.

i've never had good experiences with body shops. so i just kind of wanted people to share with me that they've had a positive experience with repairing their car. people like me. who actually don't want 300 chips on their doors.
i know there's not a miracle cure for egg chips. i know what eggs do to cars. not sure what you're implying here...
the car either has to be touched up, touched up and re-cleared, resprayed, or left alone.
i'm not prepared to leave it alone anymore.
i was upset when i posted the thread, obviously, and i'm looking for someone to tell me it's gonna be ok. that they had the same thing happen to them and their car was fixed 100%. i've already gotten a couple responses similar.

that's fine. i agree that i will probably be able to pick out the repair. but someone else, like me, shouldn't be able to see the repair if they tried. i can usually tell a car that's been resprayed from a mile away. then again, i've seen cars that've been repaired and i can't even tell until i find a tiny fisheye. which, to me, is unacceptable.
i saw a guy with a zo6 the other day and i had no idea his car had been sprayed, never thought to look. but it had aftermarket rear fenders and hood. his car was silver so that helped me out quite a bit. but it also looked brand new.
is it wrong for me to want to hear stories of joy? :)
the ONLY thing i'm worried about at this point is paint fade. i haven't necessarily taken the absolute best care of my car. never been waxed fully yet. if something crazy gets on it, i'd wash it right off but i've left it sitting in the sun pretty much the whole summer. i don't drive it much... always been parked outside, in the sun. idk. it doesn't look faded at all. :/
anyway. i'm OCD about my cars. there's nothing i can do about it. (screwy)

yeah, and it really bugs me when every thread i've read about someones car being egged, the responses are something like this:
"i washed the egg off right away, so there was no damage." look again.
"the egg was on my car for a few hours in the sun and now there are spider cracks and chips on my paint"

And As far as fading..Thats where a COmpetent Body shop comes in thats good at blending.
Silver is a Hard color to match though. Not because of fading..or the color..but because the flake will lay a different way when applied differently than the factory did it..or even out of two different spray guns.
Let not even get into Spray settings, pressures, Technques, and distances..all can change the way the flake lays...and ilver is almost all flake.
There is only so much anyone can do and an Insurance company will pay for.

Trust me..I push them beyond their limits on almost every repair they do for me.
I am as hard to please as they come.
i understand the complexities of repairing a metallic paint job. but i do know that it can be done. it just depends on whether or not the body shop is willing to take the time and do it.
the last car i had, they had the car in the shop like 10 times because they sucked at life. giant fisheyes, missing parts, etc. they sprayed a front bumper, fenders and blended hood in 1 day! that's way too fast. all i can ask is that the body shop take the time and do the best possible job they can, providing the insurance will pay them to.
i've seen good jobs, and i've seen horrible jobs.
the way the flake is sprayed on the spoiler is a different texture than the rest of the car. it still matches, but the flake is a little different. still looks great though.
i mean... if they have to repair the whole side of my car and blend it in at the bumpers, i don't mind. i have farmers, they're paying for it to be fixed right.
btw, this body shop is willing to come pick up my car 1.5 hours away and give me a free detail. now, this is an exotic repair shop. i can only imagine how long they take to detail a car. i'd rather them use that time for painting. they SEEM to have their priorities in order, however. and they said they deal with farmers atleast twice a day, so that's a good thing. :)

The difference you see on the spoiler is actually because of a different material.
Paint will lay differently on metal than it will on plastic...Thats a whole 'nother wierd discussion you could go into.

no, i know, you're right. but that's not entirely it.
the spoiler, i THINK is the same material as the bumpers though... right?
and the bumpers have the same texture, just slightly different in color.

If they did it twice chances are they'll do it again. Get some surveillance cameras. Lots of people post them up on their homes to protect from theft. Then if it stops then for sure its someone you know. And it probably wont happen again.

idk man... i mean... the damage has been done now.
if it gets fixed well enough, i'm gonna park it in the garage.
a car cover might have helped but they might have gotten mad at the sight of it.
besides that, a car cover + dirty car = ouch. and it's a little bit of a hassle.
looking back though, i probably would've bought one. i just wish i had a garage. :/

i just looked at my gf's friend's evo today. it had the pass door repainted from being keyed.
it's also silver and was about a year old when he had it resprayed. looks absolutely 100% OEM. there are no flaws in the clear at all and the flake and color is exact.
gives me more hope. i think i just might be alright afterall. :)

yeah. i've come to the conclusion that it can be repaired 100% seamless. it just depends on if the shop i take it to is willing to work on it. i think it's getting towed tomorrow. :)

Dont' worry about paint fade, a good body shop will blend the new paint into the old paint. Also a good polish, glaze and wax on your existing paint will shine it back up. Your car is still new, it shouldn't be faded very much if at all.

yeah. i was going to take it out of town to get it worked on but there's a body shop in town that seems pretty good. i looked at their work and it looked really good.
they had a silver bmw x5 there, 2006 and it looked perfect.
hopefully they can get it right. they're going to get it right before i take it back. i'm gonna clay it tonight and get it ready for the body shop tomorrow.

I would also suggest a camera installed that watches over your car/s. You can even get a motion sensing one. This way you can tell if its kids in the area or if its a drive by egging.
You can pickup a camera pretty cheap and have it record to your PC.

so here's the update:
i got my car back today. at first glance, it looked very good.
so i went to finally look at it after the sun went down a bit...
i found 2 fisheyes that may be able to be wetsanded out or something, idk. and the way that they took the side skirts off, they gouged the paint. looks like they did it with a screw driver. they're gonna have to fix that.
and they took a small gouge out of the bumper near where it meets the fender. they're gonna need to fix that also.
on top of that, they scratched one of the door sills a bit. they're gonna have to replace that.
they cleaned the interior with shiny stuff. not too big of a deal but still.
and lastly, they left marker on my door from where they marked the position of the side moldings.
the actual repair looks pretty good despite a couple fisheyes, which aren't on the bulk of the door, so maybe they didn't see that.
i can tell they're capable of finishing it correctly, they just haven't yet. i honestly didn't expect anybody to get it right the first time.
it's going back tomorrow. (crosses fingers)

Ive had my previous car get parts repainted 3 times (2 hit and runs and 1 accident) and I could never tell a difference (other then the new parts didnt have any dings on them :D). And the places I took the car were regular ol' body shops.

hehe. yeah, that's the problem. i think that most people that egg cars have no idea that it damages anything. they probably just think that it'll irritate the owner for having to wash it off.
the egg shell breaks and is so sharp that it WILL chip the paint. i've never seen a car egged that has no evidence. idk. i guess it's possible if you have a crazy ass paint job with 15 clear coats or something. haha.

Good evening, I actually created an account to reply to this thread; sorry it's a little late, wish it could have been more help earlier on. A few weeks after I brought my car home, I was driving home from my girlfriends house at around 1AM and heard a large thwack sound. At first I had thought maybe I hit a bird or something, but after thinking in hindsight where the sound was generated from I realized it was probably an egg. I quickly turned around and tried to see where it may have came from. I went to a parking lot and checked it out; it was dark so it was hard to tell the damage. I then went and tried to find where it had been done, but couldn't find anything. I check my car again and realized there was a huge egg shaped grouping of paint chips, significantly worse than yours are in your pictures (note that I was going about 50 mph and the egg came towards me probably going around 30 or so, do the math.) I filed a police report and as usual, nothing happened. Anyway, if you lived in Utah, I'd be able to tell you where to go to get it fixed; the job done on my car was flawless, and they even removed my door and handle to avoid overspray and make it look stock. Honest to God, taking a look at it, you can't tell it had ever been egged.
On a side note, i noticed you were going to take it back, that's good. Any company should stand by their work, and do what is needed to make sure the customer is happy. Make sure they don't try to charge extra or anything, if they made any mistakes, it's up to them to fix it free of charge.
Some people just don't realize the damage they do when they do the things they do. Were I you, and that had happened at my house, I'd probably do what others are saying with the paintball gun, but I'd use my auto airsoft rifle; that thing kills. I have a great story about hitting my friend square in the wanker, but another time.
