I JUST realized my sign says 7/18/2007. All these pictures were in fact taken July 18th 2008

I will be relocating internationally and selling my 2002.5 Protege5, and will be removing the stereo before the new owner takes it. I built this stereo myself after acquiring the car last year and posted a build thread (http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123669735), but most of the pictures were lost when imagestation shut down. It was designed to be a space-saving, good-sounding upgraded to the stock stereo. This is NOT a rattle your teeth, wake the neighbors, and set of car alarms type of system.

This stereo was designed to work with the plastic "floor risers" used in 2003 cars for the spare tire mounted subwoofer. If you have a 2003, you are all set. If you have a pre-2003, the floor risers shown can be included for $25.

SUBWOOFER and ENCLOSURE
The subwoofer enclosure is custom molded to fit into the recess on the drivers side of the hatch area. Virtually no "useful" space is lost. It is made from fiberglass and covered in black carpet that closely matches the stock interior. It is secured to the trunk panel via the hole where the cargo light is normally, and is very secure (requires removal of cargo light). A removable metal grill is flushed into the enclosure, and covered in black grill cloth.

The subwoofer is an Elemental Designs E8a, DVC-4. This is a very compact, but powerful, little subwoofer. It has a flat carbon fiber cone and can handle a lot of power for it's size. It is bolted into the enclosure with stainless hex head cap screws. There is a small scuff on part of the cone, but otherwise it is in great shape.

Price: $165 plus shipping. Will not separate enclosure and subwoofer.

AMPLIFIER
A 1/4" MDF cover hides underneath the stock carpet, proctecting the amp and crossovers below it.

http://lh4.ggpht.com/tim.monroe/SID4qeYyvlI/AAAAAAAAAhE/mRVjqaU3njk/100_2848.JPG?imgmax=576

The amplifier resides in the spare tire area, but ACCESS TO THE SPARE IS NOT AFFECTED!! The spare tire can be quickly and easily removed if needed, as the entire amplifier mounting board is "hinged" to allow access.

The amplifier is an Autotek SX series, 5 channel amplifier. The amp has some nicks on the heatsink and is not cosmetically perfect, but has been an absolute workhorse and functionally perfect. Only the subwoofer channel and one pair of stereo channels are in use, meaning you could run the rear door speakers off the amp as well (I planned to, but never got around to it). I cannot remember the specs off the top of my head, but will find them and post them.

The crossovers are for the components mounted in the front of the car (Elemental Designs 6.5"), and are also mounted to the amplifier board. All wiring is neatly hidden and concealed.

The 6.5" midrange speakers are mounted in the factory locations in the door panels. The tweeters are mounted into the a-pillars. I tried to heat and "countour" the tweeter mounts to better fit the a-pillar, but the results were less than perfect. Not "bad", and 98% of people won't give them a second look, just "not perfect".

Price: $165 plus shipping, and stock a-pillars. This includes the amplifier, crossovers, components, amplifier mounting board, and a-pillars with integrated tweeters. If you would like to keep your stock a-pillars, add $25. NO WIRING IS INCLUDED

HEAD UNIT
The head unit is a Blaupunkt Bahamas MP46:

The unit features adjustable illumination, and be set to match the factory protege dash lighting. It will play MP3/WMA encoded CD's. I will include the Blaupunkt ipod interface unit, which allows control of an iPod from the stereo, as well as charges your ipod. It's not the best ipod interface out there, as it has some flaws (only songs in playlists can be accessed), but it is much better than an FM modulator or fussing around with the ipod while driving.

The nicest thing about this unit is that it looks very nearly stock, not like a crazy spaceship or giant scoreboard like some units.

Should put your location...and that looks like a pretty sweet sub...

If I was local, I would get it 100%, but shipping would kill it...

I'm seriously interested in this, calling dibs, whatever, pending shipping costs. :) Let me know how much it would be to ship to 89178, I can provide a business address if it would be cheaper.

Sufficient, or do I need to reshoot all of them?
