we are the true third gen...we were the orginal third gen, then 01-03.5 is the new and improve 3rd gen after plastic surgery...literally plastic :-P..

we have pins...i have the 01-03 protege badge and that has pins so i think they are all pins

...wow, ok, i guess that we're all wrong...

so what do we do to fill the holes after the badges come out?

*sigh* there are 2 plastic caps that sit in the holes. There are two metal *nubs* on the back of the emblem that fit into the plastic caps on the car. Those caps come out easily and when you take the badge off your bigget enemy is "adhesive"

Adhesive and pins. I pryed mine off with a plastic scraper and hot glued the plastic inserts back in filled the hole with hot glue shaved it off flush and painted them black mica. Looks ok... would way rather fill the holes and french the plate and repainty the whole trunk lid - my bike rack is wearing on it big time !
OOps I thought I had a good pic of the finished product - must be at home.
