Alright so im wondering if this could be a problem, i noticed the when shifting into gears, and taking them out of gears is tought, going into gears and taknig out of the gears if feels like shifting in the winter when the oil is frozen, doesnt shift as smooth as my civic does, literally i can shift with 1 finger protege i need to use more force to put it into gears and out, wondering if my tranny fluid might be low? would this cause this? if so how do i check my oil level in the tranny and how would i fill it? and what oil does it use?

Mine's the same way... I think it's like that because it's not a honda(rofl). I have '06 RSX-S and shifts are effortless in it. Mazda takes much more effort. You have short shifter installed? I have B&M short shifter on my mazda and it made the shifts more difficult, but I'm assuming that's just because you have less mechanical advantage with a shorter shift lever. (Simple machines baby!)

I just changed my trans fluids to all synthetic mobil one and it feels a little better, but still feels too high effort to me...

how many miles on it? how often do you change the fluid? fluid should be changed every 30k miles. you're synchros could be going.

well it might be because the protege has a shifter linkage to the transmission and most civics are connected via a hydaulic (dont know if thats the proper word, but it describes it best) cable...youll get smoother shifts from the later
