Hey guys. I went into the dealer today ready to buy, but I guess they were not ready to sell!(headshake...

It was an our before they closed and the guy was just like "well why don't you come back some other time"...wierd

OK story aside...

I was hoping you guys could list you Out the Door" price (price of the car plus any taxes and fees) for me. I am trying to get somewhere around 23,500 for a 2008.5 GT.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!(spin)

good luck with that price
it's diff for everyone because of tax depending on state.

i paid 23,650 +TTL which came out to 25.5 otd in los angeles, ca

Useless unless you tell us your location. If you're looking at OTD (includes freight and TTL), then it depends on local demand and your state. Buying in a state with no sales tax is obviously going to have a lower OTD price than a state with, everything else constant.

$22,740 before TTL
$24,900 OTD
CA Tax = 8.25%

So in NH minus the tax, I would have paid ~$23,000 OTD for a 2008.5 MS3 GT with no options.

Since you don't pay sales tax, then $23.5k OTD for a GT is very doable. In VA, I paid ~$700 for sales tax for $24.3k OTD.

I'm in North Carolina, but I was shooting for the same deal a month or so ago. I ended up getting 2008.5 GT for less than $100 over that. Below is the breakdown I got from my dealer:

$25,363.00 MSRP

$22,363.00 SALE PRICE
0 TRADE
$22,363.00 DIFFERENCE
$670.89 TAX
$23,033.89 SUBTOT
0 Rebates
$28.00 FILE
$9.75 NCSI
$450.00 DOC
$74.00 REG / TAG / TITILE

$23,595.64 TOTAL

They can do it for $23,500, if the timing for the holdback, etc is just right. Just remember...persistance overrides resistance. Good luck!

Lowest price I got was $22895 + tax title registration for a 08.5
Breakdown was: invoice inc. destn. charge $23240 - $600 + $200 advertising charge + 55 document fee = 22895 + ttl

I actually paid $55 more to get the 08 color/interior I wanted from my local right round the corner.

So your bottom line, in my area (SF Bay), in June 08 was $22895

You should easily get a price in the 22 range for a GT without nav. TTL will add somewhat to this. Be on the lookout for any weird delivery, handling etc fees they like to pad with. Also take into consideration where your financed through. Try to do this on your own, since they will lie to you on the rate you qualify for, pocketing a significant bonus from the bank in doing so.

wow, i'm envious that some of you got invoice or even lower. how did you do it?

about 10 days ago, i got a 2008.5 GT here in southern CA:
invoice = 23,240+150 "los angeles assessment"=23,390
sale price=invoice +200=23,590
doc fee around $50
tax=7.75%
plus license fee, dmv fee, CA tire fee

out the door was 25xxx

for others who bought in socal, did you also get this "Los Angeles assessment"?

My loan was 3 yrs at 5.35% with the dealer, but i know i could have gotten 4.95% through capital one through costco.

looks like i will have to buy from a dealer in another region i guess...

why negotiate OTD pricing? argue the cost for the car, the rest is just math added on top. it's the only way to be positive about what you are paying for the car. i know some dealers like to talk about monthly payments...DANG! talk about clouding the arguement...you would need to really think about the car pricing with that logic. i also went 3 years payments. i hope to knock it off in half that. i hate car payments.

So check this out ...

Hassled one dealership near my house for about two weeks to around 22,169. I got them to print out a Buyer's Form. Then took the Buyer's Form to my dealership (The dealer where I purchased my Mazda 3) and told them to beat the price. They gave me a higher trade-in value for my Mazda 3 and waived the freight.

When I bought my previous car (from the dealership, my Mazda 3) I was given a 2 year maintenance plan which included a 300 rebate on purchasing a new car. Well what do you know ... a few days before I was about to head to my dealer and purchase my Speed I received another rebate in the mail, for 1000 $

Needles to say as I was filling out the paperwork for my CWP MS3 I slapped down both rebates lol .... You should have seen their faces LMAO.

I was told Mazda randomly mails out rebates, like the one I got, to a few people each year? So I guess I was lucky :D

Their was a minimum balance to finance, 7,500 $. I ended up keeping some of the cash for my trade-in. (Samsung LNA650 Series 6 TV Ftw (headbang) )

22,169
14,600 - Trade In Value
599? - Freight

Wrong, you want to negotiate OTD price. Leave the math to them. Let them figure it out what should be what. You want OUT THE DOOR price. I walked in had my regular 3, came in with the MSRP. Told them I won't over 25 flat for the car OTD.

huh? you cant figure out taxes? let's take your 25k. what are your fees? your local taxes? do you even know how much you paid over invoice? i think; you do all your research on the internet, figure out how much invoice is to the best of your knowledge and then go argue a buy price. then once they nail that down, you are done. the fees and taxes are going to be what they are going to be, you are not going to argue with uncle sam. look at the contract, check the numbers..pay...drive away.

my example. i knew what invoice was. they came back at exactly $200 over invoice. i said "i'll take it!" in my case $21200. no damn way i could go and say..i wont pay over....(guess) 23500 OTD. OTD is a mystery just because we dont know the exact fees. way to difficult for me to have all the info for a fair fight..

I agree. You're not negotiating fees and taxes, as those are usually set in stone unless they're trying to rip you off with unnecessary fees (window etching, $300 doc fees, etc...). We know what MSRP is, we have a general idea of what invoice is using online info from Edmunds and that should be all you need to approach multiple dealers with offers. I don't like beating around the bush and making the dealer do math. I make my offer, purposely low-ball them a little bit and go from there. If they give you a number in the ball park and won't budge, go to another dealer with that number and ask them if they can beat it. If you can do this with two or more dealers, I guarantee you will have at least one of them eating at out of your hand. One of the dealers I was working with nearly two months ago over the phone with pricing is still calling and emailing me to this day. I really need to answer the call one day and tell them I bought from another dealer, but I'm kinda curious as to how long they're going to keep it up.

how does this work?

You go to the site, choose the car you want, give them $200, they do all the work for you, you are guaranteed at least 5 quotes from dealers within driving distance.

I recieved 7 quotes plus one non bidder, they ranged from approx invoice -400 to invoice +800

Was worth it for me, I hate the time wasted dealing with the dealership.
You can do it your self using a fax attack, I got a book from the library that told you exactly how. The book recommended car bargains as the next best thing if you didnt want to do it your self.

I always negotiated OTD price. Since taxes and fees remained constant, all I was doing was getting them to lower the price of the car. But you can lower the price down to $20,000 and still be paying $24,000 OTD.

I guess you misunderstood what I was trying to say. Yes they are going to be what they are, but you can let them firgure them out once you come up with a price OUT THE DOOR. Ill put it to you this way, I bought one of the first speeds to hit the streets in miami. MSRP was like 23.5 or somthing or rather. I said plain and simple I will take the car for 25 OTD or no deal. Whether or not taxes and tags and all that shit inlcuded was more or less they can figure it out on there own. I could care less if they make 200 or less. That was my deal and they took it. No shit your taxes are what they are.

If you have a trade you also need to take that into account. Example if the dealer is making enough on the trade they can show you a purchase price of just about anything. They are just making it up on the other end.

This wouldn't be Wayne Mazda would it? I called them once for a quote and those guys won't stop harassing me to buy a car. Can't beat their pricing though, but I live 2 1/2 hours away in South Jersey and still have to pay 7% sales tax, so the $500 or so cheaper they were over the dealer I bought from wasn't motivation for me to drive up there, pay gas/tolls there and back and waste a day buying a car. Just got off the phone 10 minutes ago and he gave me a price of $23,430 on a 08.5 White Crystal Pearl GT w/36 miles. Pretty sure that is excluding taxes as I forgot to mention it so he more than likely left them out.

Now, what are some decent tactics I can use to get them to a sub-$24k number INCLUDING taxes???

Thanks

Pretty simple. Call all dealers within driving distance. Ask them for the same exact thing (being flexible on color is an advantage). Ask for car price and OTD so you can compare. Talk to either the sales manager or internet/phone sales. Make it short. At the end of the day, call the dealer with best price, and ask for a lower one (-200 or so) and tell them you are willing to put a deposit on the car and buy it right away if they meet your price. If they do not, just wait a week or so and try again.

You should have a good idea of what a reasonable price would be by reading this forum.

If you do not like phone calls send a fax or an email then follow up with a call. A call just means you are more serious than all the others.

This works every time for me.

Got my '08 Black Mica 3 weeks ago for $22,900 OTD. I just wish the deal for my Scion tC didn't fall through, I had to trade it in for $14,000 when they probably sold it for $15,900. So in the end... the dealer still won. :(

dang man. you got a really good deal.

i bought my speed 3 in march of '07 for 22,300 + tax.

i owed 14,400 on my '06 scion tC and they gave me 13,800. $800 down and the rest is history.

not a bad deal but shit, a thousand cheaper would've been pretty cool.

I bought the car about a month or so after it hit the dealers. It was a brand new GT with navigation tech. and Bose package. I got everything you could possibly get with the car except for the Sirius and the cargo net.Out the door registration tax everything was $25050

So, should one shoot for $500 below invoice?

Also, being that 2009's are out, shouldn't a 2008 sell for well below invoice being it is already 1 year old?
